Pineto Pianeta Mare: where the sea meets sport and solidarity

Pineto Pianeta Mare is a premier open-water swimming event held on the coast of Pineto, in the province of Teramo, in the heart of the Abruzzo Riviera. For one day, the stretch of sea in front of Lido La Cambusa becomes a natural race course, bringing together seasoned swimmers, enthusiasts, and families looking to experience open-water swimming for the first time.

A project by Gruppo Spatangus

The event was born from an idea by Gruppo Spatangus, the local association that has been driving long-distance swimming on the Teramo coast since 2008 and organized the historic City of Pineto Swimming Trophy for many years. With Pineto Pianeta Mare, the group turns a new page while staying true to its core philosophy: sport and fun to foster well-being, support local charities, and celebrate Pineto and its sea. The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Pineto and is part of the Adriatic Open Water Circuit, a series of swimming stages along the Adriatic coast.

Four courses for everyone

The heart of the day features four different courses, designed to accommodate every level of experience:

• Red Course — 3,000 meters, reserved for experienced swimmers;
• Yellow Course — 1,500 meters, intermediate level;
• Blue Course — 3 x 500-meter relay, dedicated to group participation;
• White Course — 100 meters, an open-water "baptism," ideal for beginners and parent-child participation.

All races, except for the White Course, are electronically timed so that every athlete can track their performance. The organization ensures full safety and support at sea for all participants.

Sport, nature, and charity

Beyond the competition, Pineto Pianeta Mare carries a powerful message: proceeds from the event, after organizational costs, are donated to charity. The event also emphasizes environmental sustainability and responsible sea use, values that have always defined the Gruppo Spatangus. Swimming off the beach of Pineto, near the Torre del Cerrano Marine Protected Area, is a unique way to rediscover and protect the Adriatic.
