The gastronomic festival by the local sports club in the heart of the Val d'Orcia
When the hills of the Val d'Orcia are painted with the colors of the season, Pienza (Province of Siena, Tuscany) hosts one of the most beloved events for the local community: the Spring Festival. Organized by Polisportiva Pienza A.S.D., the historic sports club linked to Pienza Calcio 1969, the event is a true village festival, made of volunteers, hot stoves, and shared tables. Reaching its thirty-fifth edition in 2026, it is now a consolidated tradition that welcomes the arrival of the warmer season.
The heart of the festival is the Giardino dei Lecci, named after David Sassoli, a green space a stone's throw from the historic center of Pienza, opposite the Carabinieri station. A covered and heated food stand is set up here, ensuring service even when spring evenings are still crisp. The atmosphere is that of an informal and welcoming Tuscan village feast, where you sit elbow-to-elbow and chat between courses.
The real reason locals and visitors flock to the Giardino dei Lecci is the local cuisine, prepared according to time-honored recipes. The menu features pici pasta made the traditional way, ribollita, grilled meats, porchetta, platters of cacio and prosciutto (with the famous Pecorino di Pienza among the local stars), sausages and beans, and grilled Florentine steak. During the Easter weekends, there is no shortage of lamb, while for a sweet finish, there are cantucci with Vin Santo and Pienza-style tart, all accompanied by excellent Tuscan wine.
Attending the Spring Festival is also an excellent excuse to visit Pienza, the "ideal city" commissioned by Pope Pius II and declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Between Piazza Pio II, the Cathedral, and the alleys with poetic names, a walk before or after lunch allows you to combine gastronomy and culture in one of the most evocative locations in Tuscany. The festival, popular and in support of local sports activities, represents the most genuine and hospitable face of this corner of the Val d'Orcia.
The 35th Spring Festival enlivened the Giardino dei Lecci in Pienza over the main spring weekends, confirming the successful formula of the festival organized by Polisportiva Pienza A.S.D. (Pienza Calcio 1969). The covered and heated food stand offered lunch and dinner with traditional specialties, accompanied by Tuscan wine, in a village festival atmosphere in the heart of the Val d'Orcia.
