Fabio Bucciarelli's reportage at the Castello Della Rovere in Vinovo
From February 7 to May 3, 2026, the Castello Della Rovere in Vinovo, in the metropolitan city of Turin, hosts "Occupied Territories", a photo exhibition by the Turin-born photojournalist Fabio Bucciarelli. The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Vinovo, brings to Piedmont one of the most discussed documentary projects in contemporary photojournalism, which was previously presented in Sarajevo and Modena in 2025 before arriving in the castle's Renaissance halls.
The exhibition brings together one hundred images, in both color and black and white, the result of over ten years of reportage by Bucciarelli in the Israeli-Palestinian territories. The work, which began in 2013 with his first trip to Gaza and continued until the 2024 conflict in Lebanon, does not sensationalize war but focuses on the profound and lasting consequences of the occupation: the fragmentation of space, limitations on freedom of movement, waiting, resistance, and the daily lives of people. The exhibition is the visual transposition of the book of the same name published by Dario Cimorelli Editore.
The exhibition path is built on fifty iron steles that support the prints and create a series of corridors within the historic rooms of the Castello Della Rovere, a Renaissance palace built between 1480 and 1517 based on designs by the architect Baccio Pontelli and embellished with terracotta, stucco, and works from the school of Pinturicchio. Normally closed to the public, the castle is opened specifically for the exhibition, offering visitors a rare opportunity to discover the village's architectural heritage as well.
Fabio Bucciarelli, born in Turin in 1980, is one of the most important Italian photojournalists on the international scene. He has documented the main conflicts of the last fifteen years and has received prestigious awards, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal and several World Press Photo awards. His images are published by the world's leading newspapers.
The "Occupied Territories" exhibition was held at the Castello Della Rovere in Vinovo from February 7 to May 3, 2026, following an extension decided due to strong public interest. One hundred images by Fabio Bucciarelli, supported by fifty iron steles, guided visitors along a path exploring the consequences of the Israeli occupation. The exhibition was curated by Lejla Hodzic.
On selected dates (Saturday, February 28, Saturday, March 14 and 28, Saturday, April 11, and Saturday, May 2, from 10:00 AM), access to the exhibition was preceded by an exclusive guided tour of the Castello Della Rovere, which is normally closed to the public. The visit was included in the ticket price, with mandatory reservation.
