About Chestnut and Porcini Mushroom Festival

Every autumn, the medieval village of Sipicciano, a hamlet of Galluccio, celebrates the two treasures of the extinct Roccamonfina volcano: the PGI chestnut and the PAT porcini mushroom. Amidst stone alleys, food stalls, a mycological exhibition, and live music, this festival in the Alto Casertano region draws thousands of visitors to the heart of the Roccamonfina-Foce Garigliano Regional Park, in the province of Caserta.

A festival in the heart of the Roccamonfina volcano

The PGI Chestnut and PAT Porcini Mushroom Festival takes place every autumn in the charming village of Sipicciano, a hamlet of Galluccio, in the province of Caserta, in the heart of Campania. Set on the slopes of the extinct Roccamonfina volcano, within the Roccamonfina-Foce Garigliano Regional Park, the event reached its twenty-sixth edition in 2025, establishing itself as one of the most popular and highly regarded festivals in the Alto Casertano area.

The two protagonists: chestnut and porcini

At the center of the celebration are the two iconic products of this volcanic territory: the Roccamonfina PGI chestnut, grown on fertile lava-derived soils, and the PAT porcini mushroom (Traditional Agri-food Product), which thrives in the surrounding woods and chestnut groves. At the food stalls set up along the village alleys, you can taste traditional rural dishes:

  • recipes featuring chestnuts and porcini mushrooms
  • local specialties and regional cured meats
  • wine and DOC sparkling wines produced in the area

The village of Sipicciano and the mycological exhibition

The setting is an authentic medieval village, an ecomuseum of the Regional Park, with its stone houses and the intimate atmosphere of the Caserta hinterland. A highly anticipated moment is the mycological exhibition, curated by the "Fungo Porcino Vulcano Roccamonfina" Mycological Group and the Sipicciano Borgo Doc Committee at the Mushroom Museum, featuring species identification seminars that attract numerous enthusiasts every year.

Music, tradition, and community

The festival is not just about gastronomy: the evenings are enlivened by musical performances and live entertainment, in a popular festive atmosphere that involves the entire Galluccio community. The event is organized by the Municipality of Galluccio in collaboration with the Sipicciano Borgo Doc Committee, with the aim of promoting the area's food and wine excellence and the village's heritage.

Why visit

Strolling through the alleys of Sipicciano during the festival means discovering an authentic corner of inland Campania, far from the most beaten tourist paths: genuine flavors, the nature of the volcanic park, and village hospitality blend together in one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the Alto Casertano.
