About D'Annunziana Marathon

The Pescara D'Annunziana Marathon is the most anticipated running event in this Adriatic city. It spans two days, combining the classic 42.195 km marathon with a half marathon, the Ten&Half, and a variety of non-competitive races. The course winds along the seafront, across the iconic Ponte del Mare, and through the city center to the finish line in Piazza della Rinascita. It is an event that weaves together competition, wellness, and social inclusion in the Abruzzo capital, named after the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio.

Pescara's Great Marathon

The Pescara D'Annunziana Marathon is the premier running event in the Adriatic capital. It is a weekend entirely dedicated to running that attracts athletes from all over Italy and beyond to the town of Pescara, in the province of the same name and the Abruzzo region. The name pays homage to Gabriele D'Annunzio, the famous poet born in Pescara, and to the cultural and sporting spirit of a city overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

The Race Program

The sporting program is designed to welcome runners of all levels, from experienced marathoners to families:

  • Marathon: the classic 42.195 km distance, a competitive race;
  • Half Marathon: 21.097 km;
  • Ten&Half: a 10.5 km promotional race, open to those new to road running;
  • Inclusive Walk: a non-competitive walk designed to involve everyone;
  • Children's races: courses tailored for the youngest runners.

A Course Along the Adriatic Seafront

The route is one of the event's highlights: fast, flat, and scenic, it winds along the Pescara seafront and crosses the striking Ponte del Mare, the city's iconic pedestrian and cycle bridge, before concluding in Piazza della Rinascita, the beating heart of the city center. The main race starts on Sunday morning, with athletes lining up in the city center.

Sport, Inclusion, and Territory

The D'Annunziana Marathon is more than just competition: the event makes social inclusion one of its founding values, involving local schools, associations, and volunteers. The promotional races and the inclusive walk allow everyone to take part in the festivities in an atmosphere of wellness and participation. Over the years, the event—founded in the late nineties by Professor Renato D'Amario—has grown to become a benchmark for Abruzzo running, enriched by the contribution of local champions like Alberico Di Cecco, an Olympic marathon runner at Athens 2004.

Why Participate

Running the D'Annunziana Marathon means experiencing Pescara from a unique perspective, between the sea, the panoramic bridge, and the city streets, during one of the most beautiful seasons on the Adriatic coast. It is a perfect opportunity to combine sport and tourism, discovering the hospitality of Abruzzo and the vibrancy of a city that loves to run.
