The summer food festival in the medieval village of Piana del Cavaliere
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Pereto Gnocchi Festival is one of the most beloved culinary events of the summer in the small town of Pereto, in the province of L'Aquila, nestled in the mountainous hinterland of Abruzzo. The village stands on a rocky spur at the foot of Monte Fontecellese, at the western edge of the region, overlooking the vast Piana del Cavaliere and just a stone's throw from the border with Lazio: a medieval village dominated by a castle with its towers and a perfectly preserved historic center.
The signature dish of the festival is freshly made artisanal gnocchi served with traditional mutton sauce, a recipe rooted in the pastoral cuisine of these highlands. The gnocchi are surrounded by a menu of local flavors: the essential Abruzzese arrosticini (grilled lamb skewers) and traditional desserts offered at a dedicated stand. Everything is served at the stalls set up in Piazza Salvo D'Acquisto, in the heart of the village.
The festival is about more than just food: live music and a warm welcome recreate the atmosphere of old-fashioned village fairs, perfect for families, friends, and groups. It is the ideal opportunity to discover Pereto, its narrow alleys, and its castle, combining the pleasure of good food with the discovery of one of the most charming villages in the Marsica region.
The event is promoted by the Pro Loco Pereto "Manolo Iacuitti", a non-profit association that enlivens the Pereto summer with food festivals and traditional events. The festival is part of the town's summer calendar, which features several evenings dedicated to local products.
The 2026 edition of the Pereto Gnocchi Festival does not yet have an official date published by the Pro Loco "Manolo Iacuitti". Based on recent tradition, the event will take place on an evening in August, in Piazza Salvo D'Acquisto, in the historic center of the village. The menu is expected to feature handmade gnocchi with mutton sauce, arrosticini, and traditional desserts, accompanied by live music.
