The Corpus Domini floral carpet in the village of Capo di Leuca
The Patù Flower Festival is one of the most distinctive events of the Salento summer and one of the most evocative displays of ephemeral art in Puglia. Every year, on the occasion of the Corpus Domini feast, the village of Patù, in the province of Lecce at the tip of the Capo di Leuca, dresses up in color: along Via Principe di Napoli, a 250-meter-long floral carpet takes shape, assembled frame by frame by hundreds of hands.
What sets the Patù Flower Festival apart is its exclusive use of natural materials: dried petals, leaves, seeds, and wild herbs gathered from the fields, enriched with powders made from daisies and even coffee grounds to achieve darker shades. Nothing artificial: every hue is born from the earth and the patience of the gatherers, petal-strippers, designers, and floral artists who work for weeks on the preparation.
The heart of the event is the night before the feast. As the sun sets, the master floral artists trace the designs onto the asphalt and begin composing the sacred images, working until dawn. It is a collective ritual that involves the entire community and numerous volunteers, including local solidarity groups and social projects: a participatory experience that goes far beyond the aesthetic result.
The Flower Festival is not just a visual spectacle but also a profound moment of devotion. On Sunday morning, the works are blessed by the Bishop of the Diocese of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca, and the day culminates in the solemn Eucharistic procession that crosses the flower carpet. Patù, a village with a rich archaeological heritage and a Blue Flag award, thus offers visitors a rare blend of religious tradition, folk art, and Salento identity.
The 2026 edition, the eleventh, confirmed the Patù Flower Festival as one of the most anticipated events of the Salento summer. The 250-meter floral carpet along Via Principe di Napoli was created with exclusively natural materials — petals, leaves, seeds, and wild herbs, with daisy powders and coffee grounds — and revolved around the theme 'The Carpet of Faith', inspired by the life of a Saint. Hundreds of volunteers, including gatherers, petal-strippers, designers, and floral artists, worked from Saturday evening until Sunday dawn.
Patù is located at the southern tip of Salento, in the province of Lecce, a few kilometers from Santa Maria di Leuca. By car, it can be reached via the SS275; the nearest train station is Gagliano del Capo (Ferrovie del Sud Est line).
The floral carpet is visible from Sunday morning, after the overnight completion, and remains on display until the following day. It is recommended to arrive early in the morning to enjoy the colors at their freshest.
The event is free and takes place along the streets of the historic center.
