The patronal feast of Favria, blending faith, music, and Canavese traditions
Saints Peter and Paul are the patron saints of Favria, a town of just over five thousand inhabitants in the heart of the Canavese, in the Province of Turin. Every year, around the liturgical date of June 29th, the town celebrates its patronal feast: a popular and religious event that has marked the beginning of summer in Favria for generations. As the local Alpini motto says, "vis unita fortior"—unity is strength.
The religious heart of the festival is the solemn procession through the historic center, with the statue of Saint Peter carried on shoulders and escorted by the Alpini of the Favria Group, Turin Section. Behind the statue, the banners of local associations parade through the festively decorated town. The procession is preceded by Solemn Holy Mass in the parish church, the central moment of the liturgical celebrations dedicated to the two apostles.
Among the most anticipated events is the Saint Peter's Concert, performed by the Società Filarmonica Favriese, one of the oldest band associations in the region. The first traces of a musical group in Favria date back to 1801, representing over two centuries of music in service to the community. Today, the band brings together dozens of musicians of all ages and is a staple of all the town's major occasions. The concert is often accompanied by theatrical interludes and sketches performed by the residents themselves in a spirit of great community participation.
Alongside the religious and musical celebrations, the festival brings the joy of the fairground, market stalls, and the convivial atmosphere typical of Piedmontese patronal feasts. The streets and squares of Favria come alive, families reunite, and the entire town participates in an event that is, above all, a moment of identity and belonging, capable of drawing back those who have moved away.
The feast traditionally takes place around June 29th, the liturgical day of Saints Peter and Paul. Favria is easily reached from Turin and the rest of the Canavese, offering a wonderful opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Province of Turin, far from the main tourist flows.
The 2026 Patronal Feast of Saints Peter and Paul brings back to Favria, in the Canavese area (Province of Turin), the events most cherished by the community. Around the liturgical date of June 29th, the solemn Holy Mass and the procession through the streets of the center will take place as tradition dictates, with the statue of Saint Peter carried on shoulders and escorted by the Alpini of the Favria Group.
