About Concerti in San Giorgio

Concerti in San Giorgio is a free-admission music festival held every June in the medieval church of San Giorgio in Valperga, in the heart of the Canavese region (Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont). Promoted by the Amici di San Giorgio in Valperga ETS Association, the season features four Sunday concerts ranging from classical music and opera to Italian singer-songwriters and wind ensembles, all set within a stunning architectural backdrop.

A concert series in the heart of Canavese

The Concerti in San Giorgio are among the most beloved musical events in Valperga, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin located at the gateway to the Canavese valleys in Piedmont. Every year, on the Sundays of June, the festival transforms the medieval church of San Giorgio into a concert hall with unique acoustics and atmosphere, where music dialogues with ancient stone and local history.

The medieval church of San Giorgio

The San Giorgio Martire church is no ordinary building: for centuries, it served as the private chapel and dynastic burial place for the Counts of Valperga. Its intimate space and medieval architecture amplify the emotional power of every performance, making the listening experience something truly special. Over the years, the festival has become a genuine cultural symbol of the Canavese territory.

A program for every taste

The strength of Concerti in San Giorgio lies in its variety: over just a few Sundays, the audience explores different musical genres and styles, from the great European classical tradition to Italian opera, from singer-songwriter classics to wind instrument repertoires. It is a formula designed to bring classical music to everyone, even those who do not regularly attend concert halls.

  • Classical and chamber music, featuring local orchestras, ensembles, and prominent guests;
  • Opera and vocal music, with soloists accompanied by piano;
  • Italian singer-songwriters, in tribute to the great masters of the genre;
  • Wind ensembles, to close the season in the spirit of the great European tradition.

Free admission, shared culture

All concerts in the series are free of charge, based on the belief held by the Amici di San Giorgio in Valperga ETS Association that beauty should be shared. The initiative is supported by the Municipality of Valperga and the Metropolitan City of Turin, along with local institutions. Today, Concerti in San Giorgio is a staple of the Canavese cultural summer and a perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover a jewel of Piedmontese medieval heritage.
