Tradition, music, and local flavors in San Benigno Canavese
The Borgo San Sebastiano Festival is one of the most cherished summer events in San Benigno Canavese, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Turin nestled in the heart of the Canavese region, at the foot of the hills rising toward the Alps. For a few days, the village transforms into a vibrant meeting place where locals and visitors from neighboring towns gather to experience the authentic atmosphere of Piedmontese celebrations.
The guiding principle of the event is captured in its motto: tradition, music, and the flavors of our village. The festival was born from the passion of a young group of volunteers who love local traditions and put together a program each year that bridges the generations. This is not a large commercial event, but a genuine popular festival where the focus is on togetherness, good food, and dancing under the stars.
The beating heart of the festival is its gastronomic evenings, with a kitchen serving specialties from the Canavese and Piedmontese traditions. In past editions, the menu has featured gnocco fritto with cold cuts and Piedmontese appetizers, grand mixed grills, fries, and desserts, all served under a covered area in case of rain. The dinners are accompanied by the joy of dance evenings.
After dinner, it is time to dance: the festival hosts traditional ballroom orchestras and disco music nights animated by local DJs, with free admission. This formula attracts dance enthusiasts of all ages, making this festival a cornerstone of social life for the village and the entire municipality.
Located in the province of Turin, in Piedmont, San Benigno Canavese is best known for the historic Abbazia di Fruttuaria, a jewel of Romanesque and Baroque art. A visit to the Borgo San Sebastiano Festival is an excellent opportunity to discover the other traditions and treasures of this corner of the Canavese, blending history, faith, and rural culture.
