The patronal feast of Orta Nova, blending faith, tradition, and major concerts on Via Stornara
The Patronal Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua is the most anticipated event of the year in Orta Nova, a town in the province of Foggia located in the heart of the Tavoliere delle Puglie and the leader of the 5 Reali Siti district. Saint Anthony is the town's patron, and his feast, celebrated around June 13thโthe saint's liturgical dayโdraws the entire community and many locals returning home for the occasion every year.
For three days during the second week of June, the town center lights up with artistic illuminations, fills with the sound of brass bands and food stalls, and experiences the dual nature of a Puglian festival: on one hand, the religious dimension, with the preparatory triduum, solemn masses at the Maria SS. Addolorata Parish, and the solemn procession of the statue of Saint Anthony through the streets; on the other, the civil and popular dimension, featuring concerts, shows, and the grand final fireworks display.
One of the most characteristic and ancient rituals of the festival is the blessing of agricultural machinery: in a territory with a strong agricultural vocation like the Tavoliere, tractors and work vehicles parade to receive a blessing, a sign of the deep bond between devotion to the Saint and life in the fields. Saint Anthony of Padua, one of Christianity's most beloved saints, is invoked here as the protector of the community and its labor.
Alongside the religious rites, the Patronal Feast of Orta Nova is famous for its major free concerts, which over the years have brought top names in Italian music to the Via Stornara stage. The closing concert, with free admission, turns the street into a large open-air square and brings the patronal days to a festive end, attracting audiences from all neighboring towns.
Organized by the Patronal Feast Committee in collaboration with the Municipality of Orta Nova and the parish, the festival is much more than an event: it is the moment when, as the municipal administration has noted, "a community finds itself again." Between the sacred and the profane, the emotion of the procession, and the joy of the evening concert, the Feast of Saint Anthony tells the story of the identity of Orta Nova and the Capitanata region.
The 2026 edition of the Patronal Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua in Orta Nova reached its peak between June 12th and 14th, following the days of religious preparation and the triduum. Mayor Domenico Di Vito spoke of an event capable of bringing the entire community together, highlighting the pride of hosting an artist of Alex Britti's caliber as the highlight of the celebrations.
