The Pasta cu l'agghia and Sasizza Arrustuta Festival takes place every year in Battaglia, a small village in the municipality of Buseto Palizzolo, in the heart of western Sicily. Established in 1988 by local residents, the event has grown into a cornerstone of the Trapani summer, drawing thousands of visitors to Piazza Battaglia every August.
The star dish: pasta cu l'agghia
The heart of the festival is the pasta cu l'agghia, featuring the famous Trapanese pesto: a simple yet intense condiment made from red garlic, almonds, pecorino cheese, basil, oil, and salt, crushed according to traditional rural recipes. The pasta is served with sasizza arrustuta—artisanal pork sausage grilled over embers—alongside sweet yellow melon (miluni giallu) and free-flowing local wine. Other local specialties, such as pizza sciavata and pizza rianata, are also available.
Music, folklore, and tradition
The festival is the most anticipated moment of the "E…state con noi" summer program, which enlivens the village of Battaglia for two weeks with a packed schedule of events: popular tournaments, musical performances, dialect theater, ballroom dancing, vintage car and motorcycle shows, and traditional village games in the square. The peak day culminates in the grand serving of the signature dish, followed by a fireworks display that lights up the village sky.

Organized by the Piana di Battaglia Cultural Association, the festival is much more than a gastronomic event: it is a gathering for the entire community and a way to pass down the flavors and wisdom of traditional Trapanese peasant cuisine. The 36th edition of the Pasta cu l'agghia Festival is scheduled for August 2026 in Battaglia, a village in Buseto Palizzolo, in the province of Trapani. The date of the main day is traditionally August 14th, as part of the "E…state con noi" series that enlivens the village for about two weeks.
At the moment, the complete 2026 event calendar has not yet been released by the organizers. The stars of the festival remain confirmed: pasta cu l'agghia with Trapanese pesto, sasizza arrustuta, yellow melon, and local wine, in an atmosphere of music and tradition. How to get there
The village of Battaglia is located in the municipality of Buseto Palizzolo (TP). By car, it can be reached via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, taking the exit toward Trapani and continuing along the inland provincial roads. The nearest airports are Trapani-Birgi and Palermo-Punta Raisi.
Admission and tastings
Access to the event is free; tastings of the traditional dishes are paid for at the stands set up in the square. We recommend arriving in the late afternoon to enjoy the opening of the stands and the festive atmosphere.
Tips
Located in the Trapani hinterland, it is convenient to combine your visit with a day exploring Trapani, Erice, and the Zingaro Nature Reserve.
