The village festival in the historic alleys of Partschins, South Tyrol
The Partschinser Gasslfest is the traditional village festival of Partschins (Parcines), a municipality in the Merano area of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The event takes its name from the Gassln, the charming alleys of the old town that transform for an entire summer weekend into a large open-air celebration space, stretching between the Kirchplatz and the surrounding lanes such as Hubenstraße and Schulmeisterweg.
The heart of the event lies with the local associations (Vereine) of Partschins, who manage the numerous food stalls. They welcome residents and visitors alike, offering classic South Tyrolean cuisine: from the essential Strauben (spiral-shaped fritters) to Krapfen, grilled meats, apple desserts, and homemade cakes, all paired with local beer and wines. It is a deeply communal celebration, where the volunteer spirit of these associations keeps the village's identity alive.
The soundtrack of the Gasslfest is provided by various musical groups that rotate through the alleys. Saturday evening traditionally kicks off with the tapping of the beer barrel and continues late into the night with bands and DJs enlivening the historic center; on Sunday morning, the atmosphere turns more intimate, featuring the notes of the Bohemian (Böhmische) brass music typical of South Tyrol. The result is a festival that brings different generations together, from children to the elderly.
Nestled in the landscape of the Burggrafenamt, just a few kilometers from Merano, Partschins offers an ideal opportunity during the Gasslfest to discover South Tyrolean folk culture far from the major tourist circuits. Strolling through the alleys, you can experience the hospitality of a mountain village that opens its doors, blending culinary tradition, live music, and conviviality in a stunning natural setting. Admission is free.
The Partschinser Gasslfest 2026 will be held on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, 2026, in the alleys of the historic center of Partschins (Province of Bolzano). As per tradition, local associations will manage the stalls with South Tyrolean culinary specialties, and the festival will be enlivened by musical groups. Saturday's opening is expected in the afternoon/evening, continuing late into the night; on Sunday, the festival runs from the morning (around 9:30 AM) until the early afternoon. Admission is free. The detailed program with bands and schedules will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
