Italy's oldest international track and field meeting, held at the Stadio Quercia in Rovereto
The Palio Città della Quercia is one of the most iconic sporting events in the Trentino-Alto Adige region and the entire Italian athletics landscape. Founded in 1965, it is recognized as the oldest track and field meeting in Italy and one of the longest-running in the world. Every year, the Stadio Quercia in Rovereto, in the province of Trento, transforms into a stage for an evening of international competition at the foot of the Dolomites.
Over its decades of history, the track at Stadio Quercia has hosted 33 world record holders, 127 Olympic and World Championship gold medalists, and athletes from over 100 nations. This legacy makes the event much more than a technical meeting; it is a piece of Italian sports history, preserved and renewed year after year by the Gruppo Atletico Palio Città della Quercia with the support of volunteers from US Quercia Rovereto.
Since 2020, the Palio della Quercia has been part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver, the second tier of the global circuit organized by World Athletics, just below the Diamond League. This status guarantees a top-tier technical lineup and places Rovereto alongside cities like Los Angeles, Bergen, Brno, Athens, and Madrid on the international calendar.
Rovereto, the second-largest city in Trentino, hosts the meeting in an atmosphere that blends sport, tradition, and local culture. The Stadio Quercia has always been the heart of athletics in Rovereto and the wider region, and the evening of competition is one of the most anticipated events of the summer and early autumn sports season. Spectators fill the stands to witness world-class sprints, jumps, and throws in person.
The Palio Città della Quercia returns to the Stadio Quercia in Rovereto on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for its 62nd edition. Following the early June date in 2025, the meeting returns to its historic early September slot, placing it in an international calendar about a month after the European Championships and just days before the Diamond League finals. The event maintains its World Athletics Continental Tour Silver status, with On confirmed as the official technical partner.
The 2026 program features 14 international competitions, including track races, jumps, and throws:
