Ostia Summer Jam: Hip hop culture at the Teatro del Lido

The Ostia Summer Jam is one of the most established events in the Lazio hip hop scene. Every year, as the warm season begins, the Teatro del Lido in Ostia — located in Rome's Municipio X, overlooking the capital's coastline — opens its doors for a day entirely dedicated to urban culture disciplines: breaking, live music, DJ sets, graffiti, and visual arts. In 2026, the event reaches its twelfth edition, scheduled for Saturday, May 16th, starting at 2:00 PM, under the motto "Create Your Escape - The art of disobedience".

Breaking takes center stage

The beating heart of the event is the breaking competition, which attracts b-boys and b-girls from all over Italy. The challenges are organized into multiple categories, from the youngest Under 10 participants to the Open class reserved for professionals, providing space for both new generations and experienced dancers. The Ostia Summer Jam competition also serves as an official qualifying stage for the "Check the Style" event in L'Aquila, recognized as one of the most important breaking events in Europe: a showcase that elevates the competitive level of the Roman battles.

DJ sets, graffiti, and urban culture

Surrounding the battles is a rich side program that reflects the variety of hip hop culture in its different forms. Throughout the day, the event features:

• DJ sets with funk and rap selections curated by nationally renowned DJs;
• Workshops and training sessions dedicated especially to younger participants;
• A graffiti area, where you can watch writers at work;
• Stands featuring urban clothing and movement-related merchandise.

The result is an atmosphere of sharing and wholesome fun, designed not only for enthusiasts but also for those who want to get closer to the values of an international cultural movement.

A project by Dhart Academy

Ostia Summer Jam is conceived and organized by Dhart Academy, a Roman organization led by Alessio "Dhalsim" Venditti, a dancer, DJ, and organizer active in the hip hop scene for years. The event takes place within the Teatri in Comune network of Rome Capital, with the support of Municipio X and the management coordination of Zètema Progetto Cultura, confirming the bond between urban culture and the city's cultural institutions.

Ostia, the seaside of Rome

The setting is Ostia Lido, the seaside district of Rome in the Lazio region: a lively, popular area that, just before the summer, becomes the ideal stage for a street and community festival. The Teatro del Lido, a key cultural space in the area, offers spectators a welcoming meeting point just a few steps from the beach, easily reachable from the center of Rome via the Roma-Lido railway line.
