The extra virgin olive oil and street food festival in Montevago
Oro Verde del Belìce is a food and wine event that the Municipality of Montevago, in the province of Agrigento, dedicates to one of its most authentic local treasures: the extra virgin olive oil of the Belìce Valley. Created to promote the olive-growing culture and the excellent products of this part of western Sicily, the festival brings the central Piazza della Repubblica to life for two evenings, transforming it into a vibrant hub of flavor, music, and conviviality.
The heart of the event is Sicilian street food: food stalls offer specialties that tell the story of the island's popular traditions, from stigghiole to panelle, from arancine to porchetta, and from Nebrodi cured meats to local cheeses, all the way to cannoli and other sweet treats. Alongside the food, there are tastings of Belìce extra virgin olive oil and the Craft Market, a showcase for local artisans and creativity.
The evenings are accompanied by live concerts and entertainment for families and children, with a dedicated area for the little ones. The square becomes a meeting point for residents and visitors alike, in a festive atmosphere that blends flavors, traditions, and entertainment well into the night.
The event is closely linked to Montevago's recognition as a 'Città dell'Olio': the Municipality has joined the National Association of Cities of Oil, receiving the flag that certifies the value of its olive-growing tradition and the quality of the extra virgin oil produced in the area. Supported by a regional grant under the Sicilia che piace initiative, the festival is a strategic investment in the tourism and agri-food promotion of the entire Belìce Valley.
Nestled among the hills of the Agrigento region, Montevago is an ideal stop for those wanting to experience the most authentic side of Sicily: olive groves, rustic cuisine, and a history marked by its rebirth after the 1968 earthquake. Oro Verde del Belìce is the perfect opportunity to savor this identity, in a free-entry event that marks the start of the Montevago summer.
The Oro Verde del Belìce – Street Food Fest 2026 event was held in Montevago on Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21, in Piazza della Repubblica, with stands opening at 7:30 PM and free admission.
On the gastronomic front, the stalls offered Sicilian street food and local products: stigghiole, panelle, arancine, porchetta, Nebrodi cured meats, cheeses, and cannoli, alongside tastings of extra virgin olive oil from the Belìce Valley. There was also space for the Craft Market and a children's entertainment area, with dedicated parking for buses, motorcycles, and campers.
The musical program featured the Colpa del Blasco, a Vasco Rossi tribute band, and Shakalab, with their mix of reggae and urban sounds, accompanied by DJ Yanez. This edition coincided with the official presentation of the National Association of Cities of Oil flag to Montevago.
The event takes place in Piazza della Repubblica, in the center of Montevago (AG), Sicily.
By car: Montevago can be reached via the SS115 and the Castelvetrano motorway exit (A29). By train: the nearest stations are on the coastal line of the Trapani/Agrigento area, with onward travel by bus or car. Parking is available for buses, motorcycles, and campers.
