Open Distilleries comes to the distillery

Cantine Aperte is the major national Italian wine tourism event organized by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, reaching its 34th edition in 2026. In Altavilla Monferrato, a small town in the province of Alessandria in the heart of the Piedmontese Monferrato, the event takes on a unique and original form: the Distilleria Mazzetti d'Altavilla opens its doors to visitors to showcase not wine, but the fascinating world of spirits.

An ancient convent in the Monferrato hills

The distillery is housed in an ancient convent located at the highest point of Altavilla Monferrato, in a landscape of vineyards recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In 2026, the company celebrates its 180th anniversary, a milestone that makes this event one of the most anticipated in the spring calendar. The 2026 national edition focuses on the theme of the regenerative experience: wineries and distilleries become spaces to slow down, breathe, and rediscover a connection with nature and the local territory.

Tastings and guided tours

During the weekend, the House of Grappa offers mindful tastings of the wide range of Mazzetti spirits: grappa, liqueurs, brandy, whisky, amari, gin, bitters, Vermouth di Torino, and fruit liqueurs. The program includes:

• a complete company tour (approx. 60 minutes) to discover the distillation process;
• a visit to the Barrel Cellar (approx. 15 minutes), free of charge while spots last;
• free access to the Historic Park and the evocative La Rotonda Votive Chapel from 1808;
• a café service available throughout the event.

A gastronomic side event

The food and wine offering is enriched by a special dinner at the Materia Prima restaurant, which specializes in local and seasonal cuisine, scheduled for the eve of the Open Distilleries weekend. Another great opportunity to pair spirits with the flavors of Monferrato.

A Piedmontese excellence

Open Distilleries represents a precious element of wine and spirit tourism in Piedmont: an invitation to enter one of the oldest artisanal distilleries in the region, to learn about the art of grappa up close, and to experience the Monferrato hills during a spring weekend. The event is also coordinated by the Movimento Turismo del Vino Piemonte, which brings together the many Piedmontese wineries participating in the initiative.
