A weekend of open doors in Aosta Valley cellars, with tastings and mountain vineyards
Cantine Aperte is the most important Italian wine tourism event: conceived by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, every year on the last weekend of May, it opens the doors of hundreds of cellars throughout Italy, from Aosta Valley to Sicily. In one of the smallest and highest wine-growing regions in Europe, the event is an opportunity to get to know the heroic mountain viticulture: terraced vineyards carved out of the rock, native grape varieties such as Petit Rouge, Fumin, Prié Blanc, and Cornalin, and the wines of the DOC Valle d'Aosta.
During the weekend, participating cellars offer guided tastings, visits to vineyards and processing cellars, pairings with typical local products, and increasingly, experiences that go beyond the classic visit: walks among the rows, dinners in the cellar, cooking classes, wellness moments, and activities for families. The protagonists are the winemakers, who welcome visitors and personally share their work and their connection to a unique agricultural landscape.
The Aosta Valley wineries participating in Cantine Aperte are located along the central Dora Baltea valley and in the side valleys, surrounding the capital city of Aosta. Participating means creating a small itinerary among the cellars, with mandatory reservations at each winery. For the visitor, it is an authentic way to connect with the food and wine identity of Aosta Valley, a region where wine is also a story of territory, hard work, and alpine landscape.
The 34th edition of Cantine Aperte, scheduled for Saturday, May 30th, and Sunday, May 31st, 2026, focuses on new trends in wine tourism, with hospitality that blends dialogue with the territory, innovation, sustainability, and attention to regenerative tourism. In Aosta Valley, cellars affiliated with the Movimento Turismo del Vino offer tastings of DOC wines, visits to vineyards and cellars, pairings with typical products, and in many cases, experiences that expand on the classic visit: walks and vineyard trekking among the rows, dinners in the cellar, cooking classes, artisan exhibitions, wellness activities, and family-friendly events. Participation requires advance booking at each winery; hours and prices (generally between 10 and 30 euros per tasting) are set by individual cellars.
Each cellar independently defines its program, hours, and prices. A list of participating wineries and booking information can be found on the portal movimentoturismovino.it.
Aosta Valley is accessible by car via the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway and by train to Aosta station. The wineries are located along the central valley and in the side valleys: it is convenient to travel by car to visit more than one.
Participation always requires advance booking: each cellar sets its own hours, activities, and tasting prices (generally between 10 and 30 euros). Book directly with the wineries or through the portal movimentoturismovino.it.
Plan your itinerary in advance by choosing the wineries to visit and, if you plan multiple tastings, organize a safe return journey. The event takes place in late spring: pleasant weather, but evenings at higher altitudes can be cool.
