About Open Cellars

Cantine Aperte is the national event of the Movimento Turismo del Vino which, on the last weekend of May, opens the doors of hundreds of Italian cellars. In Aosta Valley, cellars from a heroic wine-growing area, among the highest in Europe, participate: guided tastings of DOC Valle d'Aosta wines, visits to terraced vineyards, gastronomic pairings, and meetings with winemakers. An opportunity to discover the work of Aosta Valley wineries up close, from the capital Aosta to the valleys, with reservations at individual cellars.

Aosta Valley Cellars Open Their Doors

Cantine Aperte is the most important Italian wine tourism event: conceived by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, every year on the last weekend of May, it opens the doors of hundreds of cellars throughout Italy, from Aosta Valley to Sicily. In one of the smallest and highest wine-growing regions in Europe, the event is an opportunity to get to know the heroic mountain viticulture: terraced vineyards carved out of the rock, native grape varieties such as Petit Rouge, Fumin, Prié Blanc, and Cornalin, and the wines of the DOC Valle d'Aosta.

Tastings, Vineyards, and Meetings with Winemakers

During the weekend, participating cellars offer guided tastings, visits to vineyards and processing cellars, pairings with typical local products, and increasingly, experiences that go beyond the classic visit: walks among the rows, dinners in the cellar, cooking classes, wellness moments, and activities for families. The protagonists are the winemakers, who welcome visitors and personally share their work and their connection to a unique agricultural landscape.

A Journey into Mountain Wine Around Aosta

The Aosta Valley wineries participating in Cantine Aperte are located along the central Dora Baltea valley and in the side valleys, surrounding the capital city of Aosta. Participating means creating a small itinerary among the cellars, with mandatory reservations at each winery. For the visitor, it is an authentic way to connect with the food and wine identity of Aosta Valley, a region where wine is also a story of territory, hard work, and alpine landscape.

Open Cellars — edition 2026

The 34th edition of Cantine Aperte takes place on Saturday, May 30th and Sunday, May 31st, 2026, throughout Italy, including Aosta Valley. Participating Aosta Valley cellars of the Movimento Turismo del Vino open their doors with guided tastings of DOC wines, visits to terraced vineyards, gastronomic pairings, and experiences among the rows. Advance booking is mandatory at individual cellars.

The 34th edition of Cantine Aperte, scheduled for Saturday, May 30th, and Sunday, May 31st, 2026, focuses on new trends in wine tourism, with hospitality that blends dialogue with the territory, innovation, sustainability, and attention to regenerative tourism.
