The international street theatre festival arrives in San Candido
For three days, the historic centre of San Candido/Innichen, in the Alta Pusteria valley (South Tyrol), becomes the open-air stage for the OLALA – International Street Theatre Festival. Following the success of previous seasons, the town is once again a partner of the event: acrobats, jugglers, comedians, mimes, and street musicians from various countries will bring the village streets and squares to life with colourful, surprising, and often poetic performances.
OLALA was founded in Lienz, in the nearby Austrian East Tyrol, where it is organised by the Ummi Gummi cultural association. From a small experiment in the nineties, it has grown into one of Europe's most important and renowned street arts festivals, attracting tens of thousands of spectators each year and bringing together around forty companies from about fifteen countries. San Candido joined the circuit as a partner venue, bringing a portion of the programme directly to South Tyrol, just a stone's throw from the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
The travelling format allows you to wander from one square to another, discovering new acts at every turn in a continuous succession of laughter, wonder, and applause. The San Candido edition takes place during the peak of the Alta Pusteria summer tourist season, when the town is bustling with residents and visitors alike.
The 2026 event is scheduled from July 29 to 31, daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, in the historic centre of San Candido. The main festival in Lienz takes place during the same period (from July 27 to August 1, 2026), with San Candido serving as the South Tyrolean stop of the tour.
In 2026, OLALA celebrates its 35th edition, and San Candido is once again a partner town. Performances will be held in the historic centre from Wednesday, July 29 to Friday, July 31, daily from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Compared to the past, the South Tyrolean event now spans three days.
As per tradition, the town's streets will host street art companies from various countries, featuring acts of acrobatics, juggling, comedy, and live music. Admission is free.
The detailed programme with the list of companies and individual show times has not yet been published. It will be announced by the organisers in the weeks leading up to the event.
The main festival takes place in parallel in Lienz (Austria) from July 27 to August 1, 2026.
