The natural history of the Dolomites between glaciations and megafauna
The exhibition 'Auronzo Tre Cime: From Dinosaurs to Mammoths, the story continues' is one of the main cultural events of the summer in Auronzo di Cadore, in the province of Belluno. After the success of the project dedicated to dinosaurs, which attracted over 7,000 visitors, the exhibition continues the narrative of natural history by shifting the focus to the glaciations of the Pleistocene and the megafauna that inhabited the mountains.
The exhibition path unfolds between the Santa Caterina lakeside promenade, where full-size reproductions of prehistoric animals are located, and the Museo di Palazzo Corte Metto, which houses the indoor exhibition area. An installation designed to engage families, schools, and natural science enthusiasts.
The exhibition is curated by paleontologist Simone Maganuco, ensuring the scientific rigor of the content. The initiative is part of the cultural enhancement project of the Municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, which during the summer complements sporting events with an offering dedicated to culture and dissemination, set against the backdrop of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
The 2026 edition of the natural history exhibition in Auronzo di Cadore, scheduled from June 27 to September 30, continues the journey started with dinosaurs, shifting to the glaciations of the Pleistocene and the megafauna. Full-size reproductions animate the Santa Caterina lakeside promenade, while the Museo di Palazzo Corte Metto hosts the indoor exhibition section, curated by paleontologist Simone Maganuco.
The exhibition is open from June 27 to September 30, 2026. The route is divided into two areas: full-size reproductions along the Santa Caterina lakeside promenade and the exhibition at the Museo di Palazzo Corte Metto. Opening hours and visiting details will be communicated by the organization through the official channels of the Municipality of Auronzo di Cadore.
Auronzo di Cadore can be reached by car from the A27 motorway (exit Pian di Vedoia, then SS51). The nearest train station is Calalzo-Pieve di Cadore-Cortina, with bus connections to the town. The exhibition route winds between the Santa Caterina lakeside promenade and the Museo di Palazzo Corte Metto.
