About Nuvolosa

Nuvolosa is Biella's comics festival, a spring event that brings the historic palaces of the Piazzo district to life with exhibitions, author meet-and-greets, workshops, and a national competition for young artists. Organized by the Municipality of Biella and the Creativecomics association, under the artistic direction of cartoonist Daniele Statella, it brings together dozens of authors, guests from the Bonelli and Disney worlds, and passionate fans for two days of free entry between Palazzo Gromo Losa and Palazzo Ferrero.

Nuvolosa, home of comics in Biella

Every spring, the Piazzo district, the medieval village crowning the city of Biella, transforms into the Piedmontese capital of the ninth art. Nuvolosa – Comics Festival is the event organized by the Municipality of Biella, through the Department of Youth Policies, in collaboration with the cultural association Creativecomics to celebrate drawing, visual storytelling, and emerging talent. The artistic direction is entrusted to Daniele Statella, illustrator for series such as Dampyr, Diabolik, Julia, Martin Mystère, and Zagor, ensuring a top-tier program.

Two historic palaces, one unique festival

The festival unfolds across two prestigious venues in the Piazzo, which can also be reached via the charming funicular that connects the center of Biella to the upper part of the city. Palazzo Ferrero (Corso del Piazzo 29) hosts the exhibitions, while Palazzo Gromo Losa (Corso del Piazzo 22/24) serves as the heart of the festival: the Artist Alley with over thirty authors, conferences, workshops, and drawing sessions. Admission to the festival days is free, a detail that makes Nuvolosa accessible to families, curious visitors, and collectors alike.

A national competition for young authors

The core identity of Nuvolosa is the Premio Nuvolosa, a national competition that invites over 150 young cartoonists from all over Italy each year to create work based on a set theme. Alongside the national section, there is a local section reserved for students of the "G. e Q. Sella" Art High School in Biella, a sign of the event's strong bond with the local area and schools. The selected works are exhibited to the public, offering a vibrant cross-section of the contemporary comics scene and new talents.

Exhibitions, meetings, and workshops

The program weaves together exhibitions dedicated to big names in comics, conferences, portfolio reviews, sketch sessions, and creative workshops designed for all age groups, from children to teenagers. It is an opportunity to meet established authors and industry professionals up close, discover how a comic page is born, and engage with the language of comics in a direct and participatory way.

Biella and the Piedmontese comics scene

Included in the cultural calendar of the Province of Biella and supported by the Piedmont Region and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Biella, Nuvolosa has grown to become one of the most anticipated events for comics enthusiasts in Northern Italy. A trip to Biella during the festival weekend allows you to combine a passion for "speech bubbles" with the discovery of one of the most fascinating historic villages in Piedmont.

Nuvolosa — edition 2026

The eighth edition of Nuvolosa took place on April 11 and 12, 2026, in the Piazzo district of Biella, with a poster signed by Stewart Kenneth Moore and the competition theme "Nuvole di stile" (Clouds of Style). Two days of exhibitions at Palazzo Ferrero, Artist Alley, and conferences at Palazzo Gromo Losa, with free admission.

The eighth edition of Nuvolosa confirmed the winning formula of the Biella festival, distributing exhibitions, meetings, and workshops between Palazzo Ferrero and Palazzo Gromo Losa. The 2026 poster was created by the artist, actor, and voice actor Stewart Kenneth Moore, while the national Premio Nuvolosa competition proposed the theme "Nuvole di stile," attracting over 150 young cartoonists from all over Italy.

The exhibitions at Palazzo Ferrero brought together the original pages of Stewart Kenneth Moore, Marco Turini, and Mario Alberti alongside the works of the competition winners and students from the "Q. Sella" Art High School. At Palazzo Gromo Losa, the Artist Alley welcomed more than thirty authors, accompanied by conferences and drawing sessions.
