'Nte vaneddi i Turturici... è Arte!' (in the Sicilian dialect, «In the alleys of Tortorici... it's Art!») is the summer artistic event that annually transforms the historic center of Tortorici, a village in the Nebrodi Mountains in the province of Messina, into a vast open-air museum. Organized by the Associazione Giovani Oricensi with the collaboration of local merchants and the patronage of the Municipality of Tortorici, the festival brings art into the «vaneddi», the town's characteristic narrow alleys, involving the entire community.
The picturesque narrow streets, keystones, under-arches, staircases, and ancient churches of the village serve as a natural backdrop for a journey of shows and installations. Walking from one square to another, the public encounters street artists, live performances, painting and sculpture exhibitions, photography displays, and craft workshops. It is an immersive experience where every corner of the historic center holds a surprise, from Mediterranean music to the most daring scenic creations.
The program weaves together many disciplines of live performance. Among the most popular offerings are aerial acrobatic silk dance, fire shows with pyrotechnic artistry, stilt-walking performances, musical acts featuring drums and Mediterranean sounds, and video mapping projected onto the facade of the Church of San Francesco. There are also installations dedicated to Sicilian myths and guests from other artistic backgrounds in the region.
Alongside the performances, the streets host stalls featuring artisans and hobbyists, showcasing ceramic artifacts, decoupage, jewelry, embroidery, and creative recycling. Food stalls offer typical Nebrodi products and local culinary specialties, completing an evening that blends culture, tradition, and conviviality.
Reaching its twelfth edition in 2025, the event has become a defining appointment for Tortorici and the entire Nebrodi district. Admission is free, designed for families, curious visitors, and anyone of any age who wishes to discover an authentic Sicilian village in its most creative guise.
