The Notturna del Campanile has become a staple of the Abruzzo running calendar. Every June, the historic center of Casalbordino, a town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, transforms into a floodlit urban circuit where hundreds of athletes compete through the town's streets. The event takes its name from the parish church's bell tower, which is illuminated in the colors of the Italian flag, serving as the race's signature landmark.
The races and the course
The program features a 9.3 km competitive race, consisting of three fast and technical laps of a roughly 3 km city circuit, and a 6 km non-competitive fun run covering two laps of the same loop. The event also includes youth races for under-16s, held in the early afternoon on shorter distances. The competitive race is part of the Corri Master FIDAL circuit and serves as the OPES Abruzzo Regional Road Championship, where regional titles are awarded.
Organization and charity
The Notturna del Campanile is the result of a collaboration between the Runners Casalbordino sports association, the local AVIS branch, and the municipal administration. Beyond the sporting aspect, the event maintains a strong commitment to blood donation and volunteerism, with the local civil protection service managing traffic and safety along the route.
A celebration for the whole town
With around 300-400 participants, including adults and children, the Notturna del Campanile is much more than a race: it is a true community festival for Casalbordino. The evening run, winding through the historic center beneath the illuminated bell tower, attracts runners from across Abruzzo and neighboring regions, combining competition, tradition, and conviviality in one of the most anticipated evenings of the Abruzzo summer.

The 7th edition
On Friday, June 19, 2026, Casalbordino hosted the seventh edition of the Notturna del Campanile. Participants gathered at Piazza Umberto I, with youth races starting at 6:30 PM and the competitive and non-competitive races kicking off at 9:00 PM.
The races
The competitive race was held on a 9.3 km urban circuit (three laps), while the non-competitive run covered 6 km, both under FIDAL aegis and part of the Corri Master circuit. The event served as the OPES Abruzzo Regional Road Championship, featuring 14 male and 14 female categories.
The winners
Francesco D'Agostino won the men's race with a time of 30'05", while Antonia Falasca took the women's title in 38'45". A total of 28 special category medals were awarded, along with prizes for the top eight Abruzzo-based teams and the top two non-regional teams.

Getting there
Casalbordino is located in the province of Chieti, just a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast. By car, take the Vasto Nord exit on the A14 motorway; the nearest train station is Casalbordino-Pollutri on the Adriatic line.
Registration and costs
Registration is handled via the TimingRun portal. The entry fee is approximately 10 euros for the adult race and 2 euros for youth categories.
Tips
The meeting point is Piazza Umberto I in the historic center. Youth races start in the late afternoon, while the main competitive and non-competitive races kick off in the evening. Lightweight running gear and shoes suitable for urban terrain are recommended.
