Social photography festival among the temples of Selinunte
NONSONOCOSA is the Social Photography Festival that brings the Selinunte Archaeological Park and the village of Marinella di Selinunte to life every spring, located in the municipality of Castelvetrano, in the province of Trapani, Sicily. The event transforms one of the largest archaeological sites in the Mediterranean into an open-air gallery, where contemporary photography engages with the remains of Greek temples and the Mediterranean landscape.
Organized by the Senzanome Association, the festival is rooted in values of inclusivity, universality, and sharing. Here, photography is not merely art to be contemplated, but a language capable of narrating change, migration, the environment, the body, and identity. The exhibitions are designed to respect the beauty and history of the location, with installations specifically conceived for the spaces of the Park and the village.
Each edition brings together prominent Italian and international photographers, with exhibitions spread across the archaeological area and the town center. Featured artists include established names in photojournalism and auteur photography, alongside the winner of an open call dedicated to under-35s and archival projects that recover local memory.
Alongside the exhibitions, NONSONOCOSA offers a rich program of activities: affordable workshops, portfolio reviews, talks with the artists, documentary screenings, and social gatherings. The festival pays special attention to the training and growth of local photographers, involving enthusiasts of all ages.
Visiting NONSONOCOSA also means discovering Selinunte, one of the most important archaeological areas in western Sicily, with its imposing Doric temples overlooking the sea. The setting of the Park makes every exhibition an immersive experience, where art, nature, and historical heritage merge. The event contributes to promoting Castelvetrano and the entire province of Trapani as a premier cultural destination in Sicily.
The second edition of the Social Photography Festival was held from May 8 to June 7, 2026, with the inauguration during the weekend of May 8-10 between the Selinunte Archaeological Park and Marinella di Selinunte, in the municipality of Castelvetrano. The theme of the edition, "Thresholds", explored the boundary between the known and the unknown and the capacity of photography to narrate change.
The program brought together prominent artists with widespread exhibitions, including "Atlas of the New World" by Giulia Piermartiri and Edoardo Delille on climate change, "Becoming" by Cristina Vatielli, "Limes, boundary stories" by Francesco Pistilli on migratory routes, "Re Exist" by the collective Ronin Platform, the archival project "Sospese", and the works of the winner of the under-35 open call.
The opening weekend, which began with the screening of the documentary "Everyday in Gaza" on the steps of Temple E, hosted affordable workshops, portfolio reviews, talks, and social gatherings. The festival was organized by the Senzanome Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Castelvetrano, the Free Consortium of Trapani, the Selinunte Archaeological Park, and the Pro Loco Selinunte.
The Selinunte Archaeological Park is located in Marinella di Selinunte, a hamlet of Castelvetrano (TP). By car, it can be reached via the A29 Palermo–Mazara del Vallo motorway, taking the Castelvetrano exit and continuing towards Selinunte. The nearest train station is Castelvetrano, which is connected to the archaeological site by local buses.
The opening weekend pass costs approximately 25 euros and includes access to exhibitions, talks, screenings, and side events, as well as an annual pass to the Archaeological Park. Workshops and portfolio reviews have separate, affordable fees.
We recommend comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for visiting the archaeological area, as well as sun protection and water on hotter days. Numerous accommodation options are available between Marinella di Selinunte and Castelvetrano.
