About Bracigliano Musical Summer

At the end of summer, Bracigliano—the village of cherries nestled between the Agro Nocerino Sarnese and the Irno Valley in the province of Salerno—transforms into an open-air stage for the Bracigliano Musical Summer, a festival part of the regional project "Nights Among Villages and Legends." Brass band relays, opera and chamber concerts, traveling theater, and local history talks bring the courtyard of Palazzo De Simone and the village alleys to life, celebrating the community's long-standing musical tradition.

Four days of music through the alleys of Bracigliano

At the end of summer, Bracigliano, a small town in the province of Salerno nestled between the Agro Nocerino Sarnese and the Irno Valley, dedicates several full days to music with the Bracigliano Musical Summer. The festival is part of the regional project "Nights Among Villages and Legends" and stems from a clear vision: to take concerts out of traditional halls and into the streets of the historic center and the courtyard of Palazzo De Simone, ensuring music remains a collective experience rather than a performance for the few. Concerts, theater, legends, and tradition alternate from afternoon until night, with the audience moving from one location to another, following the sound.

Palazzo De Simone, the heart of the event

The hub of the festival is Palazzo De Simone, on Via Vittorio Emanuele. Originally built as a fortress and belonging to the Miroballo d'Aragona marquises, the municipality purchased it in 1938 and returned it to the community in 2014 after extensive restoration. Today, it houses an auditorium, a museum of rural life, and a section dedicated to the town's musical heritage. The intimate inner courtyard hosts the evening concerts, while other events are spread across the squares, alleys, and the Convent of San Francesco.

A community living by the brass band

Bracigliano is known in Campania for its cherries and a brass band tradition that has spanned generations. The town is home to the "Francesco Cardaropoli and Francesco D'Amato" band, directed by Maestro Carmine Santaniello, and the Bracigliano City Band, led by Maestro Carmine Cardaropoli. The music competition named after Francesco Cardaropoli, which brings young instrumentalists to town every year, draws from the same musical roots. It is no surprise, then, that the festival dedicates significant space to brass bands: conferences on the relationship between band tradition and local development, and above all, the "brass band relay," a format where multiple groups pass the baton while traversing the village streets, turning it into a continuous soundscape.

The "Nights Among Villages and Legends" project

The festival is supported by the regional project "Nights Among Villages and Legends," funded by the Campania Region as part of the POC 2014-2020 program and the Development and Cohesion Fund. The goal is to bring smaller historic centers to life during summer evenings by intertwining live performance, popular storytelling, and the rediscovery of local sites. In Bracigliano, the project was championed by the municipal administration led by Mayor Giovanni Iuliano, with Deputy Mayor Ferdinando Albano and Councilor for Events and Entertainment Patrizia Botta.

How a festival day unfolds

The program alternates between different styles throughout the day:

  • Morning - conferences and meetings on the town's musical history, cultural walks through the alleys;
  • Afternoon - matinees and listening workshops for families and children, traveling parades, and street theater performances;
  • Evening - the main concert in the courtyard of Palazzo De Simone, with repertoires ranging from symphonic and operatic to folk music.

The format favors variety: recent editions have featured opera recitals, chamber ensembles, brass bands invited from other regions, and traveling theatrical productions designed for younger audiences as well.

Bracigliano beyond the festival

Visitors arriving for the festival will find a village that has turned its agricultural identity into a tourist attraction: the cherry is the symbolic product, and in spring, the Blossom Festival draws visitors from across the province, while summer festivals celebrate the harvest. The territory, halfway between Salerno, Nocera Inferiore, and the Vesuvius area, is perfect for a slow weekend among hillside paths, historic churches, and traditional Campanian rural cuisine.

Why it is worth attending

The Bracigliano Musical Summer is not a festival of big names, and that is precisely its character. It is a community festival where local musicians play alongside guest soloists, where the audience consists of families and enthusiasts, and where classical and brass band music steps out of the concert hall format to become a walk, a meeting, and a story. It is a different way to discover a village in the heart of Campania, far from the most crowded tourist circuits.

Bracigliano Musical Summer — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Bracigliano Musical Summer has not yet been officially announced. In 2025, the festival took place from September 4th to 7th in the courtyard of Palazzo De Simone and the historic center of Bracigliano, in the province of Salerno, as part of the regional project "Nights Among Villages and Legends." Dates and the program for 2026 will be updated as soon as the Municipality of Bracigliano makes them public.

2026 Edition: information pending

At the moment, the Municipality of Bracigliano has not released official dates or a program for the 2026 edition of the Bracigliano Musical Summer. The most recent reference remains the 2025 edition, hosted in early September between the courtyard of Palazzo De Simone, the squares of the historic center, and the Convent of San Francesco.

The festival depends on the regional project "Nights Among Villages and Legends," supported by the Campania Region: the schedule is usually announced close to the summer through the municipality's official channels and local press in the Irno Valley and the Agro Nocerino Sarnese. Those intending to attend should check for updates before organizing their trip.
