New Year's Eve in the heart of Sciacca's historic centre
New Year's Eve in Sciacca has one specific address: Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, the grand terrace overlooking the sea in the heart of the city's historic centre. Here, in this town in the province of Agrigento, Sicily, the municipal administration organises a free celebration every year that draws both locals and tourists to ring in the new year together under the stars.
The tradition is well-established: as the clock strikes midnight, a fireworks display lights up the sky above the harbour and the historic centre, kicking off the festivities. Immediately after, the square turns into a vast open-air dance floor, where music keeps the crowd going until late at night. Over the years, the format has featured concerts by Sicilian artists, DJ sets, and entertainment shows designed to get thousands of people dancing outdoors.
The natural backdrop for the event is one of Sciacca's most beloved squares: the Scandaliato, a wide panoramic viewpoint over the Mediterranean, which has always been a meeting place for public events and concerts in the city. Its location, just a few steps from the historic centre, the thermal baths, and the sea, makes it the ideal setting for a lively and accessible public celebration.
The New Year's Eve party in Piazza Scandaliato is one of the highlights of the Sciacca Natale calendar, the programme of cultural and entertainment initiatives promoted by the Municipality during the holidays. The festivities don't end on New Year's Eve: on January 1st, the Teatro Popolare Samonà traditionally hosts the Grand New Year's Concert, featuring a refined repertoire of famous arias from the Italian operatic tradition.
With free admission and its popular festive atmosphere, New Year's Eve in Piazza Scandaliato is one of the most cherished moments of the winter in Sciacca. It is the perfect opportunity to experience the historic centre of Sciacca in a festive mood, amidst music, lights, and the warm hospitality of one of the most characteristic cities on the Agrigento coast.
The night of December 31, 2025, in Piazza Scandaliato in Sciacca was brought to life by the Italo Dance Generation format, a musical project that offered a journey through the best 90s dance hits and the most recent Italian dance successes. After the midnight fireworks display, the square turned into a massive open-air dance floor with DJs, dancers, and performers: the dancing started at 1:00 AM, with free admission.
The initiative was part of the Sciacca Natale programme promoted by the municipal administration. On January 1, 2026, at 8:30 PM, the Teatro Popolare Samonà hosted the Grand New Year's Concert titled 'Amore e passione', featuring music by Mascagni, Bellini, Rossini, and Verdi, starring soprano Marianna Cappellani, baritone Gianni Giuga, and pianist Ninni Spina (tickets 20 euros, available at the box office and on TicketOne).
