Marian devotion and an ancient livestock fair in the heart of the Sicani Mountains

The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is one of the most deep-rooted events in the life of Campofiorito, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily, perched at an altitude of about 660 meters among the Sicani Mountains. Celebrated around October 10th, the anniversary indissolubly unites Marian devotion with the memory of the agricultural and pastoral world that for centuries represented the village's main wealth.
The event's origins date back to 1844, when a livestock fair was established to support the interests of the village's farmers and breeders, originally scheduled for the first Sunday of August and the following Monday. In 1866, the fair was moved to October 10th and 11th and combined with the festivities in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary. Considered the last fair of the season, the event thus became a true village festival, with illuminations, a procession, and pyrotechnic displays.
During the festival days, Campofiorito lights up in an extraordinary way and gathers around its most cherished rites:
Founded in 1768 by Prince Stefano Reggio-Gravina with the original name of Santo Stefano Reggio, Campofiorito is today a small municipality of just over a thousand inhabitants that proudly preserves its religious traditions, from the Feast of Saint Joseph on March 19th to the Fava Bean Festival in summer. The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, with its fair, remains the occasion where the village's rural identity and popular faith intertwine most authentically, attracting emigrants and visitors from the neighboring valley towns.
Participating in the festival means immersing yourself in the most genuine inland Sicily, far from mass tourism circuits: the intimate atmosphere of the village, the sound of the band, the scent of sweets and local products, and the strong sense of community make this anniversary an event of great anthropological and devotional value.
Details for the 2026 edition of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary in Campofiorito have not yet been released.
