The grand New Year's Eve show in the heart of Chieti
New Year's Eve in Piazza San Giustino is the end-of-year event organized by the Municipality of Chieti in the heart of the city, in Abruzzo. The celebration takes place in the scenic Piazza San Giustino, the city's baroque living room framed by the town hall, the Cathedral of San Giustino, and historic porticoes: a monumental setting that transforms into a grand open-air stage every December 31st.
Conceived as a popular, inclusive, and intergenerational event, the show combines live music, comedy, and entertainment, hosted by well-known figures from the Abruzzo entertainment scene alongside national guests. After the midnight toast and countdown, the square continues to celebrate with a DJ set until late into the night.
After an absence of nearly twenty-five years, the New Year's Eve celebration in the square has returned to Chieti to massive public acclaim, with Piazza San Giustino packed well beyond the city limits. The initiative, now in its second consecutive year, restores a major public event of significant cultural and economic value to the city, capable of attracting visitors from across the province and the region.
The program alternates between music, comedy sketches, and entertainment designed for all ages, with a particular focus on the atmosphere and hits of the 1980s and 1990s. The evening is led by charismatic hosts and a live band, while after midnight, the stage is turned over to a DJ to keep the square dancing until the early hours. The event is also broadcast live on local television stations, bringing the Chieti festivities into homes across Abruzzo and Molise.
As the capital of the province of the same name, Chieti is one of the oldest cities in Italy and preserves a rich historical and archaeological heritage. Piazza San Giustino, with its cathedral dedicated to the patron saint, is the hub of city life: hosting the New Year's Eve party here means blending the elegance of the baroque square with the popular spirit of a major end-of-year event.
On the evening of December 31, 2025, Piazza San Giustino welcomed the new year with the "Let's Go Party '80 '90" show, a major free event organized by the Municipality of Chieti dedicated to the atmosphere of the eighties and nineties.
The stage featured comedian and impressionist Claudio Lauretta, showgirl and dancer Matilde Brandi, and Abruzzo tenor Piero Mazzocchetti, accompanied live by the Red Band. The evening was hosted by artistic director Federico Perrotta alongside Valentina Olla. After the countdown and midnight toast, the party continued with a DJ set by DJ Heinz, spinning the greatest hits of that era.
For the second consecutive year, the square was filled with spectators, confirming the return of the New Year's Eve celebration as a new city tradition, complete with local television coverage for Abruzzo and Molise and a shuttle bus service for participants.
