The authentic taste of the Nebrodi black pig in the village of Longi
The Nebrodi Black Pig Festival is the annual event that brings the village of Longi to life every January 5th. This small mountain town in the province of Messina is tucked away in the heart of the Nebrodi Park. Held on the eve of Epiphany, the festival marks the perfect finale to the long Christmas holiday period: an evening entirely dedicated to the tastes and traditions of the Sicilian mountains, drawing visitors from across the entire Nebrodi district.
At the heart of the event is the Nebrodi black pig, an ancient native breed raised in a semi-wild state within the oak and beech forests of the mountain range. This breed is a true pillar of Sicilian gastronomy, symbolizing a territory that has turned traditional farming and high-quality meat into a cultural and economic asset. Along the stalls and tasting points, you can sample specialties prepared with this flavorful meat: arancini and macaroni with ragù made from black pig, frittole, sausage, porchetta, prosciutto, meat rolls, and sandwiches, all paired with local products.
Beyond the tastings, the evening in Piazza Generale Moriondo is enlivened by traditional Sicilian folk music, folk songs, and propitiatory bonfires which, according to local custom, mark the end of the festivities. There is no shortage of entertainment and fun for all ages, creating a convivial atmosphere that makes this festival one of the most cherished events in the Nebrodi winter calendar.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Longi, with the support of the Nebrodi Park, the GAL Nebrodi Plus, and the Regional Department of Agriculture, with the aim of promoting local products and developing the mountain territory. Reaching its twenty-seventh edition in 2026, the Nebrodi Black Pig Festival is a precious opportunity to discover Longi, its historic center, and the food and wine excellence of this corner of Sicily.
