The premier event celebrating alpine pasture cheeses in the heart of the Valli di Lanzo
When July arrives, the small mountain village of Usseglio—nestled at 1,265 meters above sea level in the Valli di Lanzo, within the Metropolitan City of Turin—transforms into the Italian capital of alpine pasture cheeses. For nearly thirty years, the National Exhibition of Toma di Lanzo and Alpine Pasture Cheeses has been one of the region's most beloved food and wine events, attracting tens of thousands of visitors (over 20,000 in recent editions) across two festive weekends.
At the heart of the event is Toma di Lanzo, a historic cheese produced in the alpine pastures of the Turin valleys, symbolizing pastoral expertise passed down through generations. Alongside it, visitors can discover a variety of other alpine cheeses, as well as local specialties: Salame di Turgia, mountain-cured meats, preserves, traditional pastries, high-altitude honey, and local handicrafts. The exhibition welcomes exhibitors from all over Italy, underscoring its national significance.
The exhibition is more than just a market; it is a showcase that highlights the work of shepherds, the preservation of the alpine landscape, and sustainable tourism. The program features commercial stalls, guided tastings, and showcooking sessions where chefs, experts, and producers guide the public through the best Piedmontese cheeses, pairing them with wines, craft beers, and other local products. There are also plenty of opportunities to explore folk traditions, alpine culture, and the charming village of Usseglio with its stunning natural surroundings.
To encourage eco-friendly travel, the Corriera della Toma—a free shuttle bus service from Turin—runs on the festival Sundays, allowing visitors to reach Usseglio without a car. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Usseglio in collaboration with the Municipality of Usseglio, making it the perfect occasion to combine a mountain excursion in the Valli di Lanzo with the pleasure of fine Piedmontese cuisine.
The 30th National Exhibition of Toma di Lanzo and Alpine Pasture Cheeses celebrates a major milestone: the thirtieth anniversary of the event that has made Usseglio one of the capitals of alpine cheese in Italy. In 2026, the festival will once again span two weekends in July, featuring exhibitors from across Italy, guided tastings, showcooking, and the typical products of the Valli di Lanzo, from Toma to Salame di Turgia.
The inauguration is scheduled for late afternoon on Friday, July 10, followed by the evening opening of the food stalls. On Saturday and Sunday, the exhibition remains open all day.
