About Luigi Chieli Competition

The National Chamber Music Competition 'Luigi Chieli' is a new competition debuting in Città di Castello, in the Upper Tiber Valley of Umbria, dedicated to young chamber music ensembles. Organized by the 'Luigi Angelini' Cultural Circle in memory of Luigi Chieli, who led its activities for over twenty-five years, the competition is open to duos, trios, quartets, and quintets formed by students and graduates under 35 from Italian conservatories. With a national-level jury and prizes including scholarships and concerts, it aims to promote chamber music and young performers on a national scale.

A new competition for chamber music

In Città di Castello, an art city in the Province of Perugia overlooking the Upper Tiber Valley, the National Chamber Music Competition 'Luigi Chieli' is born. The initiative is promoted by the 'Luigi Angelini' Cultural Circle in collaboration with the 'G. Puccini' Municipal Music School, and is dedicated to the memory of Luigi Chieli, who led the circle for over twenty-five years.

Who it's for

The competition is aimed at chamber music ensembles — from duos to quintets — composed of students enrolled in the three-year or two-year programs, graduating students, or graduates of Italian conservatories and recognized higher music institutes, with an age limit of 35 years. Each group performs a program lasting a maximum of thirty minutes before a jury composed of musicians from Rome, Florence, Pesaro, Perugia, and Terni.

Prizes and objectives

The competition offers a scholarship of €1,500 for the first prize winner, with the possibility of a concert in the 2027 season of the Angelini Circle, and €800 for the second prize winner. The objective is to promote chamber music as a training ground for collaboration and listening, supporting young performers and bringing a nationally significant event to Città di Castello.
