The exhibition 'Francis in Gubbio. Art and Spirituality in the Land of the Wolf' is the exhibition heart of the 'Gubbio 2026. In the Sign of Francis' program, with which the city of Gubbio (Province of Perugia) celebrates the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi (1226-2026).
The Land of the Wolf
The title refers to one of the most famous episodes in Franciscan tradition: the encounter between Francis and the wolf of Gubbio, narrated in the Fioretti, in which the saint reconciles the beast with the city community. A legend that today is reinterpreted as a message of peace, non-violence, and care for creation, giving Gubbio a special role in the centenary celebrations.
Art and Spirituality
The exhibition offers a journey that intertwines works of art and spiritual dimension, developing and expanding the previous exhibition 'Francis and Brother Wolf', which had attracted over 17,000 visitors. The initiative is part of a broader calendar that includes the Festival of the Middle Ages, dedicated in 2026 precisely to the theme of the wolf, and the pilgrimage of the Path of Francis from Assisi to Gubbio.
