Costumed storytelling tours and wine tastings at the Castle of Magliano Alfieri
In the hilltop village of Magliano Alfieri, in the province of Cuneo, the Castle of Magliano Alfieri dominates the Roero landscape, part of the UNESCO Langhe-Roero heritage site. Here, the Narrar Castelli e Vini festival, conceived by Turismo in Langa and managed by the Barolo & Castles Foundation, presents its first Spring Edition: on Sunday, May 24, 2026, the manor's halls transform into living spaces where history is told and the past becomes present through guides and actors in costume.
The Spring Edition is dedicated to the women who left their mark on the places they inhabited and transformed. In Magliano Alfieri, the protagonist is Adele Alfieri di Sostegno, born in 1856: a noblewoman who chose not to marry and instead dedicated her fortune to concrete assistance and education, founding schools, kindergartens, women's workshops, and a hospital. Alongside her, we meet Emilio, a young teacher raised in one of the institutions she established; their dialogue reveals the social impact Adele had on the local community.
The visit is also an opportunity to discover the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions – Gypsum Culture housed within the castle, a treasure trove of artifacts, casts, and decorated ceilings typical of parts of the Roero. It is a unique testament to local decorative art, making the manor much more than just a scenic backdrop.
At the end of each storytelling tour, there will be a tasting of Langa wines, curated for the Magliano Alfieri stop by the Bric Cenciurio winery. The festival, which usually takes place in autumn, extends its season to spring, involving the castles of Serralunga d'Alba, Roddi, and the Ricetto of the Castle of Barolo on May 24 and 31, all properties managed by the Barolo & Castles Foundation.
The storytelling tours, suitable for children, are designed as a cultural and experiential tourism activity: not just a guided tour, but a theatrical journey that weaves together the history, characters, and winemaking traditions of Piedmont. Magliano Alfieri and the Province of Cuneo confirm their vocation as a territory where historical heritage and great wines coexist in a single itinerary.
For the first time, the Narrar Castelli e Vini festival arrives in spring. On Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Castle of Magliano Alfieri opens its doors for an all-female storytelling tour, while the event also involves the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba on the same day.
The following Sunday, May 31, the festival continues at the Castle of Roddi and the Ricetto of the Castle of Barolo.
