The Marguareis ultratrail on the trails of the Ellero Valley
The MUT – Mondolè Experience is the new evolution of the Marguareis Ultra Tour, the mountain race that challenges athletes on the most spectacular trails of the Monregalese region. Organized by the Team Marguareis, the event has found its home in Roccaforte Mondovì, a small town in the Province of Cuneo nestled at the entrance to the Ellero Valley, in Piedmont. From here, the two competitive routes depart and finish, designed to cross forests, alpine pastures, and the ridges of the Marguareis massif, bordering Liguria and France.
The race offers two tracks of varying difficulty, designed to welcome both first-time trail runners and the most experienced ultra-runners:
The tracks are certified, and the event is included in international trail running circuits, with points valid for sector rankings.
The MUT is not just a competition: it is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Piedmontese Alps. The race takes place simultaneously with the Outdoor Free Festival (OFF), the major free event organized by the Unione Montana del Monregalese, which brings Roccaforte Mondovì and neighboring towns to life for three days with climbing, e-biking, trekking, horseback riding, and dozens of other outdoor activities. Upon finishing the MUT, runners find an entire sports village set up in the central town square, complete with a food area, shows, and entertainment.
Roccaforte Mondovì and the Ellero Valley represent one of the most beautiful gateways to the Marguareis Natural Park, amidst beech forests, high-altitude meadows, and historic mountain huts. Participating in the MUT means running through a landscape that bridges sport and the preservation of the mountain environment, in one of the wildest areas of southwestern Piedmont.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the MUT was presented in a renewed format, with start and finish in Roccaforte Mondovì and a new route that crossed the trails of the Ellero Valley. The race, included in the Outdoor Free Festival program, offered two competitive tracks:
The organization, managed by Team Marguareis under the direction of Gabriele Pascon, integrated the race into the large sports village set up in the central town square, where athletes found refreshments, a food area, and shows at the finish line.
Both races wound along the trails of the Ellero Valley and the Marguareis Park. Registrations were managed online on the WeDoSport platform. The race was part of the Outdoor Free Festival weekend (June 5-7, 2026), with a village, food area, and free outdoor activities in Roccaforte Mondovì and the towns of the Monregalese.
Roccaforte Mondovì can be reached by car from Mondovì (A6 Turin-Savona motorway exit) in about 15 minutes. The reference railway station is Mondovì, connected to Turin and Savona.
Registration for the races is done online via the WeDoSport platform, with links and documentation (regulations and waiver) available on the official website marguareisultratour.it.
As these are mountain routes with significant elevation changes, the trail equipment required by the regulations is mandatory. It is advisable to book accommodation in the Mondovì and Monregalese area well in advance, as it is particularly in demand during the Outdoor Free Festival weekend.
