Tuscany's boutique traveling festival stops at the Rocca Sillana in Pomarance
The Musicastrada Festival is a boutique traveling festival, considered unique in Italy, which for over twenty years has traversed the most fascinating villages and landscapes of the province of Pisa, in Tuscany. Every summer, it transforms squares, monuments, villas, and natural vistas into open-air stages, following the philosophy that defines its identity: music as an experience, born from the encounter between artists and places of extraordinary beauty. Among the most beloved and evocative stops of the festival is the one in the Municipality of Pomarance, at the Rocca Sillana, an ancient medieval fortress that dominates the hills of the Val di Cecina.
More than just a series of concerts, Musicastrada is a true journey. Alongside live music, the public finds local products, craft beers, excursions, breathtaking views, and opportunities for gathering. It is a format that combines culture, landscape enhancement, and a social dimension, capable of bringing Italian and international artists to places off the beaten track, far from large arenas and immersed in the authenticity of the Tuscan countryside. The locations, with limited capacity, host concerts at sunset or at night, in an intimate and cozy atmosphere.
The Rocca Sillana is one of the most significant monuments in the hills of the Val di Cecina, in the territory of Pomarance. It stands on a hill surrounded by woods, in a panoramic position: its name likely derives from "Silvanus," indicating the wooded nature of the place, rather than from the Roman general Sulla. Densely inhabited in the Middle Ages, the fortress controlled a vast territory and is now accessible to the public, becoming a perfect scenic backdrop for the festival's "diffused" format, where history, architecture, and landscape are an integral part of the show.
Pomarance is a village in the Val di Cecina, in the Pisan hinterland, on the edge of the Colline Metallifere area and the evocative geothermal zones of Larderello. Between countryside, woods, and ancient castles, the territory offers an authentic setting far from mass tourism routes, ideal for those seeking a Tuscan summer made of music, nature, and local traditions.
The festival places great attention on the social dimension: among the characteristic initiatives of the 2026 edition is the suspended ticket (biglietto sospeso), in collaboration with the Arnera Social Cooperative of Pontedera, which allows the public to purchase an extra ticket to donate to those who could not afford one. A choice that reflects the spirit of the event, attentive not only to artistic quality but also to the community value of shared music.
The Pomarance stop is part of a calendar that touches numerous municipalities in the Pisan area every summer, making Musicastrada one of the most distinctive and appreciated musical events in Tuscany.
For the 2026 edition, the 27th, the Musicastrada Festival brings two evenings of live music at sunset to the Rocca Sillana in Pomarance. On Friday, July 31, 2026, at 7:45 PM, the refined singer-songwriter of the Italian scene, Dimartino, takes the stage; on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 7:45 PM, it is the turn of the French band Jersey for an evening with an international flair.
These dates are part of the broader program of the diffused festival, which in 2026 takes place from July 10 to August 2, touching numerous municipalities in the Pisan area, from Castelfranco di Sotto to San Miniato, from Castelnuovo Val di Cecina to Monteverdi Marittimo, up to Pomarance and Chianni. Guests of the edition include names such as Carmen Consoli and Eugenio in Via di Gioia.
Friday, July 31, 2026, 7:45 PM – Rocca Sillana, Pomarance
Saturday, August 1, 2026, 7:45 PM – Rocca Sillana, Pomarance
The dates are part of the program of the 27th edition of the Musicastrada Festival (July 10 – August 2, 2026).
Rocca Sillana, Municipality of Pomarance (PI), province of Pisa, Tuscany. The fortress is located on a panoramic hill among the woods of the Val di Cecina, in the Colline Metallifere area.
Traveling by car is the most convenient option: Pomarance is about an hour from Pisa and Volterra. Access to the fortress involves a short walk from the parking area; comfortable shoes are recommended. The reference train station is on the coastal line (Cecina) or in Pontedera, from which you can continue by car.
Tickets and season passes can be purchased in advance on the DICE platform at a lower price than at the door. The "suspended ticket" solidarity initiative is also available in collaboration with the Arnera Cooperative. Given the limited capacity of the location, advance purchase is recommended.
