About Musical Maestro

In Canelli, in the heart of the Asti region, Musical Maestro is the first workshop in Piedmont entirely dedicated to musical theatre. For five days, between the Teatro Balbo and the Sala delle Stelle, participants of all ages immerse themselves in the three disciplines that bring musicals to life: singing, dancing, and acting. It is an intensive training program, open to all levels, enriched by evening performances, meetings with renowned artists, and a final gala that showcases the participants' work. An experience that combines training, art, and community under the Monferrato sky.

Five days in the world of musical theatre

Musical Maestro is the intensive workshop that transforms Canelli, a wine city in the province of Asti, into the Piedmontese capital of musical theatre every summer. Conceived by Ivana Mannone and Cristian Catto, the event aims to combine training, art, and shared experience, introducing young people and adults to the three fundamental disciplines of live performance: singing, dancing, and acting.

Two paths for every vocation

The program is divided into two distinct and complementary paths, designed to welcome those who dream of the stage as well as those fascinated by the work behind the scenes:

  • Stage Path (five days, from age 10): a journey into expression, interpretation, and stagecraft, with Junior (10-14 years) and Senior (15+ years) sections. No previous experience is required.
  • Behind-the-Scenes Path (three days, from age 14): a workshop dedicated to set design and costume making, to discover the art that makes every show possible.

Performances, meetings, and final gala

Alongside the workshops, Musical Maestro offers a rich evening program open to the public, with events ranging from the Theatrical Jukebox โ€” where the audience chooses the numbers on stage โ€” to meetings with big names in Italian theatre. The event concludes with the Musical Gala, the final performance that brings the work done by participants during the week to the stage.

A week of high-level training

What sets Musical Maestro apart is the presence of professionals from major musical theatre productions โ€” such as Mary Poppins, West Side Story, and Cabaret โ€” who share their technique and experience with participants. Part of the city's summer calendar, the event highlights the cultural heritage of Canelli and the entire Monferrato region, a Piedmont territory famous for its UNESCO-recognized vineyard landscapes.

An experience for the whole family

Open to children, teenagers, and adults, with no experience required, Musical Maestro is much more than a course: it is a temporary community of enthusiasts who, for a few days, live and breathe the magic of musical theatre in the heart of the Asti region.
