The workshop dedicated to the world of musical theatre in Canelli
Musical Maestro is the intensive workshop that transforms Canelli, a wine city in the province of Asti, into the Piedmontese capital of musical theatre every summer. Conceived by Ivana Mannone and Cristian Catto, the event aims to combine training, art, and shared experience, introducing young people and adults to the three fundamental disciplines of live performance: singing, dancing, and acting.
The program is divided into two distinct and complementary paths, designed to welcome those who dream of the stage as well as those fascinated by the work behind the scenes:
Alongside the workshops, Musical Maestro offers a rich evening program open to the public, with events ranging from the Theatrical Jukebox โ where the audience chooses the numbers on stage โ to meetings with big names in Italian theatre. The event concludes with the Musical Gala, the final performance that brings the work done by participants during the week to the stage.
What sets Musical Maestro apart is the presence of professionals from major musical theatre productions โ such as Mary Poppins, West Side Story, and Cabaret โ who share their technique and experience with participants. Part of the city's summer calendar, the event highlights the cultural heritage of Canelli and the entire Monferrato region, a Piedmont territory famous for its UNESCO-recognized vineyard landscapes.
Open to children, teenagers, and adults, with no experience required, Musical Maestro is much more than a course: it is a temporary community of enthusiasts who, for a few days, live and breathe the magic of musical theatre in the heart of the Asti region.
The new edition of Musical Maestro takes place in Canelli from July 14 to 18, 2026, with a calendar that blends training and performance. The workshops are divided into the Stage Path (five days, ages 10+, divided into Junior 10-14 and Senior 15+) and the Behind-the-Scenes Path (July 16-18, ages 14+), dedicated to set design and costumes with morning and afternoon sessions.
Events take place between the Teatro Balbo and the Sala delle Stelle. Workshops require registration and have limited spots.
The 2026 edition brings to Canelli a meeting with Arturo Brachetti, a world icon of quick-change artistry, and the engaging Theatrical Jukebox, where the audience chooses the numbers on stage. Grand finale with the Musical Gala on July 18.
