Classical and folk music in the farmyards and courtyards of Niella Tanaro
Founded in 1995, Musica sull'Aia is one of the most distinctive festivals in the Monregalese summer calendar. Its Latin motto — "Inter segestes nigella, inter areas musica", meaning "music among the wheat fields and farmyards" — perfectly captures the spirit of the event: bringing high-quality music out of concert halls and directly into the spaces of rural life, the aie (farmyards) and farmhouse courtyards.
The festival takes place entirely within the municipality of Niella Tanaro, a small village in the province of Cuneo perched on the hills that separate the Langhe from the Monregalese area in Piedmont. Each evening features a different setting: from the Aia del Castello to the Aia Beccaria, and from Cascina Berzide to the Borio and Camilla farmyards, spectators are taken on a journey through the most picturesque corners of the village.
The program of Musica sull'Aia crosses genres and traditions with great freedom: classical and baroque music, singer-songwriter tracks, jazz, folk, and world music all coexist throughout the evenings. The stage hosts national and international performers — vocal ensembles, guitar and accordion duos, mandolin players, jazz trios, and female vocalists — in concerts designed to enhance the natural acoustics and intimacy of the locations.
The event is organized by the Maestro Società Cooperativa together with Pro Niella Tanaro Aps, under the patronage of the Piedmont Region, the Piedmont Regional Council, the Province of Cuneo, and the Municipality of Niella Tanaro, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Fondazione CRC, and NuovoImaie. It is a prime example of how a small community in the Cuneo province can build a high-profile cultural offering capable of attracting enthusiasts from well beyond the region.
Attending Musica sull'Aia means discovering an authentic corner of rural Piedmont. The evenings are the perfect opportunity to stroll through the village, explore its frescoed chapels, and breathe in the atmosphere of a community that has made music a moment of connection for nearly thirty years. An event that combines artistic quality with the warm hospitality of a hillside town.
The Pro Niella Tanaro has confirmed the return of Musica sull'Aia in August 2026, as part of the village's summer event calendar. The festival will continue its long tradition of evening concerts in the farmyards and courtyards of Niella Tanaro (CN), Piedmont, dedicated to classical and folk music.
At the moment, the precise dates for the individual evenings and the artistic program featuring the performers have not yet been published. As with previous editions, a series of events is planned throughout the month of August in various farmyards around the village, with free admission.
The detailed program will be announced on the official website www.musicasullaia.it and via the Pro Loco channels in the weeks leading up to the event.
