The widespread music festival in the heart of Laives
Music on the Street is a widespread music festival that brings live music to the streets of the center of Laives/Leifers, a town in the province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige. The idea behind the event is simple and engaging: instead of concentrating performances on a single stage, music spreads throughout the city, occupying sidewalks, intersections, and squares, offering residents and visitors an itinerant and informal experience.
Performances are distributed along Via Kennedy, Via Pietralba (Weißensteinerstraße), and the new town square, the renovated heart of city life. Walking from one point to another, the public encounters different bands and musicians in a festive atmosphere that mixes genres and styles, engaging all ages. The "widespread" formula makes Music on the Street not just a concert, but a true gathering opportunity for the community.
The event is organized by the South Tyrol Musicians Association (in German Südtiroler Musikerbund), a bilingual organization that brings together and promotes musicians from the South Tyrolean region. The choice to bring music to the streets reflects the association's commitment to making musical art accessible and close to people, outside of conventional spaces.
Music on the Street is part of the rich summer program of the Municipality of Laives, LaivEstate/LeiferSommer, which offers around fifty events between June and September, including music, sports, art, culture, and major popular events. In particular, the festival is one of the three "long Saturdays" (lange Samstage) that form the backbone of the program, along with the "Millenium" concert dedicated to the hits of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, and the Sports Festival that closes the season.
Admission is free, and the event is designed to be enjoyed freely while strolling through the town center. Music on the Street represents a different way to experience summer in Laives: music as a social glue, capable of animating urban spaces and bringing together the two linguistic communities of the South Tyrolean city.
On Saturday, July 18, 2026, the widespread music festival Music on the Street returns to Laives/Leifers for its second edition. The event, organized by the South Tyrol Musicians Association (Südtiroler Musikerbund), brings live music along Via Kennedy, Via Pietralba, and the new town square, transforming the city center into an open-air stage.
The event opens the series of three "long Saturdays" of the LaivEstate/LeiferSommer 2026 summer program, which continues with the "Millenium" concert dedicated to the 80s, 90s, and 2000s (August 8) and the Sports Festival (September 5). Admission is free.
The detailed program with times and participating groups has not yet been fully published: it will be released by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event through the channels of the Municipality of Laives and LaivEstate/LeiferSommer.
Laives/Leifers is located a few kilometers south of Bolzano, along the Adige Valley. By car, it can be reached from the A22 Brenner motorway (Bolzano Sud or Egna-Ora exits) and the SS12. By train, the reference station is Bolzano, connected to Laives by urban and suburban buses of the SASA service.
The event has free admission and takes place along Via Kennedy, Via Pietralba, and the new town square. For detailed schedules and the updated program, it is recommended to consult the event calendar of the Municipality of Laives and the channels of LaivEstate/LeiferSommer.
As this is a widespread outdoor event, it is best to reach the center on foot or by public transport and wear comfortable clothing to move from one performance point to another.
