The winter jazz and singer-songwriter festival at SpazioPingue, Sulmona
Muntagninjazz Winter is the winter jazz series held in Sulmona, in the heart of the Peligna Valley in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo. Born as the winter counterpart to the historic summer Muntagninjazz festival, the season brings six evenings of great music every year from November to April to the intimate and well-curated space of SpazioPingue, a venue that combines a passion for jazz with a love for fine dining.
The festival's format is one of its most appreciated features: each concert can be enjoyed as a complete experience, pairing live music with a refined dinner or a platter of local specialties. In this way, Muntagninjazz Winter celebrates both musical excellence and the rich culinary heritage of Abruzzo, turning every evening into a social and cultural event.
The program balances diverse genres and atmospheres: from big band swing to spiritual jazz, from Brazilian music to world music influences, and from singer-songwriter performances to Dixieland sounds. Over the years, the SpazioPingue stage has hosted top-tier national and international artists, offering the Abruzzo audience a high-caliber lineup.
The festival is promoted by the Muntagninjazz APS association, based in Introdacqua, the same organization that produces the large summer festival held across numerous towns in the Peligna Valley. Muntagninjazz Winter extends the association's musical offerings throughout the year, providing enthusiasts with a regular appointment during the colder months and helping to make Sulmona a landmark for jazz in Abruzzo.
The 2025-26 season of Muntagninjazz Winter at SpazioPingue in Sulmona consisted of six events, one more than in previous editions. The program alternated between different genres and atmospheres, confirming the festival's commitment to offering open and eclectic jazz.
The season opened on November 21, 2025, with As Madalenas (Cristina Renzetti and Tatiana Valle), voices and instruments of Brazilian music in Italy, followed on December 5 by the Dixie Hogs with the Dixieland atmosphere of the 1920s New Orleans. On January 30, 2026, it was the turn of the Lorenzo Hengeller Trio, blending swing and singer-songwriter style, while on February 20, the stage hosted Claudio ยซGregยป Gregori & Massimo Pirone Quintet with the swing vibes of Las Vegas. On March 13, the Spiritual Trio led by trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso took the stage, with Alberto Marsico on organ and Alessandro Minetto on drums. The season closed on April 10, 2026, with The Blend Factory and the voice of Taryn Szpilman.
