The African music and dance festival in Ivrea
MUDADA – African Music and Dance is the festival that brings the vitality of African music and dance to the stage of the Teatro Giuseppe Giacosa in Ivrea, in the heart of the Canavese area, in the province of Turin and the Piedmont region. Created to showcase groups in Italy and Europe that cultivate Afro-dance in its many forms, the festival is promoted by the A.S.D. Baobab Musiche e Danze d'Africa association, in collaboration with Morenica_net and with the patronage of the Municipality of Ivrea.
The program brings together companies and choreographers selected through an open call, with works ranging from traditional African dance to its fusion with contemporary language. Productions from various Italian and European cities alternate on stage in an evening that is at once a performance, a celebration, and an encounter between artists and the public. Alongside the choreography, there is space for live music and the percussive rhythms that have always accompanied African dance.
The festival is not just a showcase of performances: it also includes a dance workshop open to both experienced dancers and beginners, hosted at the Baobab association's premises on Corso Vercelli in Ivrea. It is an opportunity to get up close with the movements, rhythms, and culture that animate the scene, guided by the choreographers featured in the event.
Behind MUDADA is the work of the Baobab association, an Ivrea-based organization dedicated to spreading African culture through dance, music, and workshops. The festival represents the most visible moment of this commitment, capable of transforming the Teatro Giacosa into a place of exchange and celebration that attracts enthusiasts from all over the Canavese and beyond.
