The historic event that turns Castellamonte into an open-air museum of ceramic art
In the heart of the Canavese region, in the province of Turin, the town of Castellamonte has for centuries nurtured a craft vocation linked to clay working. The International Ceramics Exhibition, reaching its 65th edition in 2026, is the most important celebration of this tradition: for three weeks, the entire historic center turns into an open-air exhibition route, where the ancient art of terracotta stoves engages with contemporary research and design.
The strength of the exhibition lies in its widespread presence throughout the urban fabric. The headquarters is Palazzo Botton, home to the prestigious Ceramics in Love international competition, but works are distributed across numerous venues: the Pietro Martinetti Congress Center, the Rotonda Antonelliana, the Felice Faccio State Art High School, the historic Fornace Pagliero ceramics center, and local artisans' workshops. Walking from one venue to the next, visitors traverse the entire history of Castellamonte ceramics, from the oldest civic collections to the boldest art installations.
The beating heart of the event is the Ceramics in Love competition, which attracts artists from dozens of different countries every year. Alongside it are sections dedicated to sound ceramics—authentic terracotta sculptures capable of emitting sounds—as well as wearable ceramics and design. The iconic terracotta stoves of Castellamonte, a true symbol of the territory's identity, are always on display, ranging from classic shapes to modern reinterpretations.
The Castellamonte Exhibition is part of the national circuit promoted by the Italian Association of Ceramics Cities and is one of the benchmark events for the sector in Piedmont. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of a grand, widespread festival that combines culture, craftsmanship, and hospitality in one of the most characteristic villages of the Canavese.
