The precious white truffle of upper Molise in San Pietro Avellana
In the woods of upper Molise, in San Pietro Avellana (province of Isernia), grows one of the rarest and most prized products of Italian gastronomy: the precious white truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico). Every year, around November 1st and the first weekend of the month, the village dedicates the Mostra Mercato del Tartufo Bianco Pregiato to it, a twin event to the Black Truffle Fair held in the summer.
Now in its thirtieth year, the market exhibition attracts the best truffle hunters and sellers of the prized tuber, ready to offer advice, tastings, and the chance to buy truffles directly from producers. Among the stands, you can taste characteristic local recipes based on white truffle and discover the typical products of upper Molise.
The event is also an opportunity to visit San Pietro Avellana and its Museum of Upper Molise โ showcasing uses, customs, trades, and archaeological finds โ which tells the story of the Samnites and local culture. Recognized as one of Italy's Truffle Towns, the town reaffirms its deep connection with the white gold of its woods with this autumn event.
The Mostra Mercato del Tartufo Bianco Pregiato returns to San Pietro Avellana (IS) in early November 2026, around November 1st and the first weekend of the month, expected for its 30th edition. The stands featuring the best truffle hunters and sellers of precious white truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico), tastings, typical local recipes, and spaces dedicated to local products are confirmed. The exact date and full program are usually announced by the Municipality of San Pietro Avellana in the weeks leading up to the event.
