The Festa della Mela (Apple Festival) in Castel del Giudice, a town in Alto Molise in the province of Isernia, is much more than a local festival (sagra): it is the celebration of the product that marked the rebirth of a village of a few hundred inhabitants. On the once abandoned lands, the Frutteto degli Antichi Meli (Ancient Apple Grove) was created, the heart of the regeneration project linked to the Borgotufi scattered hotel.
Two days of taste and nature
The event takes place in autumn, usually in October, and offers a packed program: a market of organic and artisan producers with over forty exhibitors, tastings of ancient apple varieties, guided tours of the grove, the Malto Lento brewery, and the Community Apiary. There will also be show cooking, live music, workshops, traditional games, and street food.
Culture, environment, and community
The Festa della Mela is accompanied by conferences dedicated to the circular bioeconomy and the regeneration of the Apennines, testifying to a vision that combines gastronomy, environment, and development of inland areas. Admission is free.
