San Pietro Avellana, capital of Molisan truffles

Nestled in the woods of upper Molise, in the province of Isernia, San Pietro Avellana is one of the most important truffle-producing centers in Italy. Recognized as a Truffle City within the national association of the same name, the village dedicates two events a year to this prized tuber: the White Truffle Exhibition Market in autumn and, in mid-summer, the Summer Black Truffle Fair.

A historic fair

The event, now in its thirty-fifth edition, enlivens the town center with stands of exhibitors selling prized black truffles, truffle-based menus, tastings, guided tours, and musical performances. It's an opportunity to get to know the work of local truffle hunters up close and to savor traditional local dishes enhanced by the aroma of summer black truffle.

Between nature and gastronomy

Beyond the fair, San Pietro Avellana offers the backdrop of the woods and pastures of the Molisan Apennines, a natural heritage that is the true source of the town's truffle wealth.
