About Chestnut Festival

In the hilly village of Morra, in Città di Castello, autumn smells of roasted chestnuts. The Chestnut Festival, which celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2025, offers chestnut tastings in all forms, wine and local products, walks in the woods, and art exhibitions with the morrArte review. Among the historic alleys, the Church of Santa Maria and the Oratory of San Crescentino with Signorelli's frescoes, a festival that combines taste, culture, and tradition.

Half a century of chestnuts

The Morra Chestnut Festival is one of the longest-running autumn festivals in the Upper Tiber Valley. It takes place in the hilly village of Morra, a hamlet of Città di Castello (province of Perugia), and in 2025 it reached the prestigious milestone of fifty years. Organized by the Pro Loco Morra, it celebrates chestnuts and the flavors of the woods with free admission.

Taste and local products

The stars are the roasted chestnuts and the many chestnut-based products — sweets, must, and wine — alongside the specialties of Morra's cuisine. The food stands, active throughout the festival, are complemented by exhibitions and sales of artisanal products, ancient crafts, and walks in the woods.

Art and historic village with morrArte

The festival is closely linked to morrArte, the contemporary art exhibition that accompanies its editions, and to the discovery of the village: the historic alleys, the Church of Santa Maria (12th century), and especially the Oratory of San Crescentino, home to precious frescoes attributed to Luca Signorelli. A combination of gastronomy, art, and tradition that makes the Morra Chestnut Festival an exceptional event of the Umbrian autumn.

Chestnut Festival — edition 2026

The Morra Chestnut Festival will return in October 2026 in the village of Morra, Città di Castello, with roasted chestnuts, chestnut-based products, walks in the woods, and the morrArte art exhibition. The precise dates will be announced by the Pro Loco Morra.

The new edition of the Morra Chestnut Festival is expected in October 2026 in the village of Morra, Città di Castello, after the historic fifty-year milestone celebrated in 2025. As tradition dictates, the Pro Loco Morra will offer roasted chestnuts, chestnut-based products (sweets, must, and wine), and Morra specialties, along with walks in the woods, an exhibition of artisanal products, and the contemporary art exhibition morrArte. The festival is also an opportunity to visit the historic alleys, the Church of Santa Maria, and the Oratory of San Crescentino with Signorelli's frescoes. The precise dates will be announced by the Pro Loco.
