A silent Advent in the upper Passeier Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Mooser Advent is the traditional Advent celebration in Moso in Passiria (Moos in Passeier), located in the upper valley known as Hinterpasseier, in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. Far from the crowds of large city markets, Christmas here is experienced in an intimate and quiet way: among the mountains and the valley floor, bells ring softly, candles glow in old churches, and the cold winter air is filled with the scent of mulled wine and freshly baked sweets. It is the "Stille Weihnacht im Hinterpasseier," a silent Christmas that invites locals and guests into a climate of authentic contemplation.
The heart of the event is the village center of Moso, where mulled wine stalls and the "Mouser Adventszauber" market are set up during the Advent weekends. Various associations from the Passeier Valley take turns managing the stalls: groups such as KFS Moos, Skiteam Passeier, the Schützenkompanie Moos, BRD Moos, the local hunting association (Jagdverein), and the volunteer firefighters (FF Moos, with their traditional Christmas tree sale) welcome visitors with hot drinks, artisanal products, and homemade gastronomic specialties.
The Mooser Advent is not limited to the main village: it is part of the broader Passeirer Weihnachten (Passeier Christmas) and involves several hamlets and neighboring villages in the upper valley. During the Advent weekends, events include the "Silent Advent" in Stuls (Stulles) with its small market, the Advent on the alpine pasture in Plan (Pfelders), Advent carols in Platt (Plata), and the Advent concert in Corvara in Passiria (Rabenstein), all immersed in the snowy landscape of the high South Tyrolean mountains.
The Mooser Advent is an expression of the popular culture of Trentino-Alto Adige and its bilingual soul: volunteer associations, bands, choirs, and Schützen groups enliven the season with a strong sense of community. For those visiting the Passeier Valley in winter, it is an opportunity to discover a genuine Advent, made of small gestures, warm lights, and handed-down traditions in the municipality of Moso in Passiria.
The Mooser Advent 2026 will return as per tradition during the Advent period in Moso in Passiria, featuring mulled wine stalls from local associations, the Mouser Adventszauber market, and musical moments in the upper Passeier Valley. At the moment, the precise dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released; they will be communicated by the Tourismusverein Passeiertal.
Moso in Passiria can be reached by car from Merano by driving up the Passeier Valley along the SS44 (approx. 30 km). The nearest train station is Merano, which is connected to Moso by local SASA/SAD buses.
Mulled wine stalls are set up in the center of Moso during Advent weekends, typically from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM; the "Mouser Adventszauber" market opens on specific days (previously from 11:00 AM). Free admission.
