Advent in Partschins: artisan markets, the Saint Nicholas procession, and village square festivities
The Partschinser Adventzauber encompasses the festive events that bring the Advent season to life in Partschins, a sunny village near Merano at the entrance to the Vinschgau Valley in South Tyrol. The event is organized by the Volunteer Fire Brigade (Freiwillige Feuerwehr) and the Partschins Brass Band (Musikkapelle), with the support of local associations and the tourist office. Unlike the large city markets, this event offers the intimate and genuine atmosphere of a traditional South Tyrolean village community.
The highlight is the Partschinser Adventsmarkt, a Christmas market set up on the Kirchplatz, the church square in the historic center of Partschins. Over twenty stalls offer handmade crafts, homemade products, and unique Christmas gift ideas, all accompanied by the scent of mulled wine and South Tyrolean culinary specialties. The food stand managed by the fire brigade provides warm drinks and traditional dishes throughout the Advent period.
The Advent calendar in Partschins weaves together various folk traditions:
The Partschinser Adventzauber is designed for both locals and the many guests visiting Partschins and the hamlets of Rabland and Töll for a winter getaway. The lights, artisan stalls, brass music, and customs surrounding Saint Nicholas and the Krampus offer a faithful portrait of South Tyrolean Christmas traditions. It is also the perfect opportunity to discover a quieter corner of the Merano area, between the village walking paths and the nearby Partschins waterfall.
Those looking for a village-scale Christmas market, far from the crowds of larger centers, will find an authentic experience in Partschins: quality craftsmanship, rustic gastronomy, the slightly eerie charm of the alpine Krampus, and the warmth of a South Tyrolean community gathering around its square during Advent.
The 2026 Advent program in Partschins (South Tyrol) has been announced. The centerpiece is the Partschinser Adventsmarkt on Sunday, November 29th, on the Kirchplatz, featuring over twenty craft stalls, followed by traditional Christmas season events.
The mulled wine stand on the Kirchplatz is open on Fridays (5:00 PM - 11:00 PM), Saturdays (10:00 AM - 11:00 PM), and Sundays (9:00 AM - 8:00 PM). Additional initiatives, such as the lantern parades in November, will take place in the hamlets of Rabland and Töll.
Partschins is located a few kilometers west of Merano, at the entrance to the Vinschgau Valley. By car, it can be reached via the Vinschgau road (MeBo/SS38) by taking the exit for Partschins; by train, the reference station is Merano, which is connected to the village by local buses. Nearest airports: Bolzano, Innsbruck, and Verona.
Events are concentrated between late November and December: the market on Sundays, the Saint Nicholas procession on December 5th, and the church concert and Kirchplatzfete on the following weekends.
The market and square events are free to attend; food and drinks at the stands are for purchase.
