Three days dedicated to the good, slow life in the heart of Chianti
The Cittaslow Showcase is the event that, every year, transforms Greve in Chianti into the capital of the slow living philosophy. In this village in the Province of Florence, the beating heart of the Tuscan Chianti, Italian Cittaslow towns gather for an entire weekend to present their food, wine, and artisanal excellence, spread across Piazza Matteotti, the San Francesco Museum, and the Boito Theatre.
Greve in Chianti is no ordinary location: it was right here in the nineties that the Cittaslow movement was born, driven by the then-mayor Paolo Saturnini. From that first nucleus, an international network has grown to include over 300 cities in 33 countries worldwide, from South Korea to Norway, from Turkey to Spain. Cittaslow promotes a development model based on quality of life, environmental sustainability, and the enhancement of local identities.
The heart of the event is the exhibition market in Piazza Matteotti, where stalls from numerous Cittaslow towns across Italy—from Lombardy to Veneto, Liguria to Emilia-Romagna, Campania to Abruzzo, and the Marches to Umbria and Tuscany—offer typical products, gastronomic specialties, and handicrafts. There is no shortage of Chianti Classico tastings with Greve's winemakers, photographic and art exhibitions, excursions through the hilly landscape, and workshops for the little ones.
The Showcase is designed as an immersive experience in the territory: you can stroll among the stalls, taste Chianti Classico wine, discover nearby villages like Montefioralle and the Pieve di San Cresci along the Slow Road trekking route, and participate in initiatives dedicated to children, symbolized by the famous little snail, the movement's emblem. A full immersion in authentic Tuscany, the kind that lives at the right pace.
The 2026 edition marks an important milestone: the twentieth edition of the Showcase, which coincides with the return to Italy of the Cittaslow International General Assembly, in the very village that gave birth to the movement. From June 19 to 21, Greve in Chianti welcomes delegations of numerous nationalities for a weekend of culture, typical products, handicrafts, and wines.
The exhibition market in Piazza Matteotti brings together 16 Cittaslow towns from all over Italy, while Greve's winemakers offer Chianti Classico tastings with TastingReve, now in its fifth edition.
Greve in Chianti can be reached by car via the SR222 Chiantigiana, approximately 30 km from Florence. The nearest train station is Florence Santa Maria Novella, from where you can continue by regional bus to Chianti.
The events are spread throughout the historic center: Piazza Matteotti (exhibition market), San Francesco Museum (exhibitions), and Boito Theatre (assembly and meetings).
Access to the event and the market is free. Some initiatives, such as TastingReve sessions and guided excursions, may require booking or a contribution. For information: Territory Promotion Office, tel. +39 055 8545271.
