Vicopisano stops of the traveling festival through the villages of the Monte Pisano
The Monte Pisano Art Festival is a traveling event that, for ten days in late July, brings life to the territories surrounding the Monte Pisano, in the province of Pisa. Conceived by Officina dei Transiti and the Strada dell'Olio Monti Pisani with the support of the Fondazione Pisa, the event transforms courtyards, squares, parish churches, villas, and oil mills into a grand open-air theater, where a different performance takes place every evening. The festival spans seven municipalities โ Pisa, San Giuliano Terme, Calci, Vecchiano, Buti, Capannori, and Vicopisano โ offering an emotional narrative of the territory that unites performing arts with local identity.
Among the villages featured in the festival, Vicopisano holds a prominent place thanks to its extraordinary historical heritage. The festival selects two evocative locations here: the Rocca del Brunelleschi, the famous fortification designed by Filippo Brunelleschi that overlooks the medieval village, and the Frantoio Rio Grifone, nestled among the olive groves of the Monte Pisano. In these settings, concerts and theatrical performances take place, enhancing the dialogue between contemporary art and historical architecture.
The Monte Pisano Art Festival program blends different genres and languages: opera productions, theatrical readings, concerts ranging from classical music to jazz and world music, and moments of contemporary dance. Completing the experience is the Fuori Festival, a cultural accompaniment program featuring dinners, tastings, and local activities, designed to introduce visitors to the typical products of the Monte Pisano, starting with extra virgin olive oil.
Born to give a voice to smaller villages and the excellence of the Pisan landscape, the festival has grown edition after edition, expanding the number of municipalities involved and the variety of its programming. For Vicopisano and the entire Monte Pisano area, it has become a highly anticipated summer appointment, capable of combining cultural tourism, live performance, and gastronomic discovery in the heart of Tuscany.
All performances of the Monte Pisano Art Festival require mandatory reservations. We recommend booking in advance, given the limited capacity of the historical sites hosting the events, and checking the official website for updates on the full festival program.
