About Monopoli Half Marathon

The Monopoli City Half Marathon is a classic road running race that brings over 1,400 athletes from across Italy every December to tackle the 21.097 km certified course between Monopoli and the territory of Polignano a Mare. Organized by A.S.D. Atletica Monopoli with the AS Labruna Trophy, the event combines the competitive race with an 8 km non-competitive Family Run open to everyone. A highly anticipated fixture on the national FIDAL calendar, with start and finish at the Vito Simone Veneziani Stadium.

The Monopoli Half Marathon

The Monopoli City Half Marathon is one of the most popular road running events in the Adriatic region of Puglia. Organized by A.S.D. Atletica Monopoli and paired with the AS Labruna Trophy, it takes place every year in early December over the standard 21.097 km of a certified half marathon, included in the national FIDAL calendar. The event regularly attracts over 1,400 runners from all over Italy, a testament to its fast course and long-standing, well-oiled organization.

The route between Monopoli and Polignano a Mare

The course starts and finishes at the Vito Simone Veneziani Municipal Stadium on Via Palmiro Togliatti, winding through the streets of the Municipality of Monopoli in the province of Bari, grazing the coast and crossing into the territory of nearby Polignano a Mare before returning. It is a predominantly flat and smooth route, appreciated by those looking for a good end-of-season time, set against the backdrop of the Adriatic Sea and the typical landscapes of the Murgia hinterland overlooking the water.

More than just competition: the Family Run

Alongside the competitive race, the day features the Family Run, an approximately 8 km non-competitive race open to everyone, suitable for families, young people, and enthusiasts who want to experience the event's atmosphere without the pressure of the clock. Registrations for this fun run are also accepted on the morning of the race, directly at the start area.

An event for the city

For the entire morning, the Monopoli Half Marathon transforms the city into a grand sporting stage: numerous downtown streets and the road towards Polignano a Mare are closed to traffic to allow the race to proceed smoothly. The event, sponsored by the Municipality of Monopoli, is a fixed appointment for the Apulian running community and brings visibility to the area during a time of year far from the peak summer tourist flows.

  • Distance: 21.097 km (competitive half marathon, certified course)
  • Non-competitive race: Family Run of approximately 8 km
  • Start and finish: Vito Simone Veneziani Stadium, Monopoli (BA)
  • Organization: A.S.D. Atletica Monopoli — AS Labruna Trophy
